I ordered a Woodsman in Leopardwood from DPknives and he just sent me these photos today of the finished product. Needless to say it looks great and I cannot wait for it to arrive. I'm also sending it to Ilbruche for a nice leather sheath so it'll still be a few weeks till I actually get it.

This is my 1st custom knife and I couldn't have asked for better!
Specs:
Thickness:1/8"
Steel: 1095
Grind: Full tang Full taper
Blade length: 3.25"
Overall Length: 7.5"
The scales are Leopard wood that have been soaked in Danish oil.

Sorry but I can't help but drool and thought I'd brag!:D

That is a beautiful knife! and custom too.....welcome to the addiction! :D

Soon, you will only buy customs! ;)

Yep- you're right. That's a beautiful knife. I like the full height grind and the handles are gorgeous!

yes that looks really nice. Interesting slope on the slab at the blade. You will have to tell us how it feels in the hand.

That's a nice size and shape - it's one that will get used a lot instead of wasting away in a drawer waiting for outings where it's not taboo to have/carry/use a larger knife. The pattern looks great - I love the blade shape and the flat grind and the handle shape looks as if it would be comfortable and versatile with different holds.

I would be interested in seeing a shot from the top and bottom on that one. I hope you plan to get that one out and "get it dirty" and take pictures while doing it. I would love to see a review on it. The whole knife has a lot of features I loke/look for.

I have to admit to one thing that is curious to me - the front part of the handle. I have not handled one of these yet so I don't know if this treatment serves a specific purpose or use. It looks nice but I am ignorant of the benefits or purpose.

Thanks for sharing and looking forward to hearing more when you have had a chance to use it.

I'll definitely try to do a review once I get it. I'm in college now so I won't be able to get too much hard use out of it, but I should at least be able to do some slicing tests to test geometry.

Any suggestions on how to get a patina on it? I've never done it before and need something easy but attractive to protect it.

Cool! Thanks for the additional shot.
If you really HAVE to rush that patina, the kitchen is full of stuff that will do it. Just using it on a regular basis and washing it in dishwater (meaning hot, soapy water and I did NOT say "dishwasher" - "dish WATER") will do it. Keeping it wiped off is important. If the patina develops while maintaining a shine, you're doing OK. If it begins to get dull or "flat" looking, rub it out. Onions, potatoes, lemon juice, Apple cider vinegar, mustard, ketchup and relish all work. A guy on KF coated his with hot-dog fixin's (mustard ketchup and sweet relish) in three applications and it looked as though it had been case-hardened - with lots of coloration. That 1095 will patina quickly enough with a little use. Use it, wash it..... You won't notice it until you compare it to something "shiny-new" but it will start to color quickly without a lot of help. Easy enough to let that get away from you too so keep it clean. If you use anything really acidic, slather it with a baking soda paste after washing. You're basically using methods used to "brown" parts for an -authentic-looking muzzle-loader.

I like it! Another vote for that cool looking scale "dip" toward the hilt. Weird, but cool.

That leopard wood looks great. I love to see Doug's Knives being made in 1/8th thickness. I am going to have to get a Outdoorsman in that thickness soon.

Great knife.

That's another little beauty from Doug for sure. I scored a Companion in quarter sawn Sycamore a couple of weeks ago. What a gorgeous piece of wood.

Here are some pics that Ilbruche JUST sent of the sexy leather pants for the knife. I left all of the design and color and style up to him and I couldn't have asked for better!

I simply cannot wait to have this in my hands!
