Now we just need a CPM-3V Paramilitary 2 Sprint.

The last sprint run I talked about wanting to happen now is (CPM-M4) not by my doing of course haha :D. So I figured I would try to start some chatter for a CPM-3V sprint in burnt orange G-10. Actually not totally sure on G-10, but unless they custom order some, options seem to be slimming down. Maybe desert tan? Thoughts? 3V or Cruwear :D.

The toughness of CPM-3V would be wasted on a 3" blade.JMO

3V isn't only good for its toughness. Alot of makers like it due to other properties. Tom Krein for example uses it in many of his models, and folders.

Tougher than m4? Better edge retention than 3v? That's cruwear! :)

I've never heard that it's tougher than M4 (May not have read the same threads or remember reading them). I have 2 models in CPM CruWear and 1 in CPM 3V and as far as abrasive wear CPM CruWear is definitely ahead of CPM 3V in my experience. Toughness not quite as good, but it strikes a good balance. I'm waiting for one of the M4 PM2's to decide what I think (Similar geometry etc. to the Millie). I love CPM CruWear as much, if not more than the next person, but I'd be on board with more 3V and M4 offerings (Assuming there are more CruWear offerings as well).

It's gonna take a good while before it happens. The only downside I can think of and a pretty significant one.

cruwear is tougher than m4?

It should be. I believe it should have the edge in impact toughness and possibly in lateral strength. I don't have any experience with Cruwear, just repeating what I have read.

The M4 will be an awesome blade but the Cruwear Para would be even better, just eliminate the light gray scales and use just about anything darker and I'd be happy.

I'd really rather have a sprint of PM2s and Milis in 10v. Greater wear resistance since there's little need for impact resistance.

I thought 3V's claim to fame (vs M4) in a knife application was its impact resistance/compression strength.

I'd like to see the PM2 in CPM 154. From what I've heard, just about the best all-around user steel there is.

noob question: what is it in Cru-Wear that makes it better than the M4 or 3V? TIA.

AFAIK the powder version ( CPM Cruwear/PD#1/Z wear) is, yes. Also keep in mind the attributes change a good amount between low and high temps ( Austenizing AND temper). Likewise it can go from fairly corrosion resistant( for a non stainless cold work tool steel) to not much corrosion resistance at all.

It's sold as a Cold Work tool steel but it does have a secondary hardening response and has some red hardness like a HSS. Note the ability to work at higher hardness's than 3V, for instance, without losing too much toughness. It can be fairly versatile.

So, the bottom line as usual is it depends on how it is heat treated/cryo'ed. The industry graphs are usually an all around compromise treat unless noted otherwise.
