noob question: what is it in Cru-Wear that makes it better than the M4 or 3V? TIA.
I wouldn't say better. They are designed with different purposes in mind and are all excellent at what they do. Everyone has different likes and needs and their steel choices eventually will generally reflect it. That's the differences between the newer and more experienced users.I may try the new "steel of the day" but I generally am satisfied with the ones I have.
I value a combination of edge stability and wear resistance, then toughness, and finally corrosion resistance I value least. For me my preference is somewhere between O-1/W2/52100 up to the CPM M4 level of carbides/wear resistance and edge stability. ( Cruwear and 3V come in the group just a little below CPM M4 in carbide fraction)Though I like S90V, S110V, M390 I prefer something different for every day use and find those steels mentioned above work very well for my needs.
Are they better than someone else s choices? Not that I can tell.
