Now who's copying who? Alias vs. HK Nitrous Blitz

I've read quite a bit of the alias vs. sebenza type threads and it seems that alot of those comparisons include aesthetics among their comparisons, fairly enough.

Just saw this HK knife for the first time (at www.NewGraham.com) and see that it's a close look-alike to Bradley's Alias.

Just an observation, and I know the steel is not the same, but wonder if people will start calling the HK an Alias clone, or even a sebbie clone for that matter.....

Have a look:

Bradley Alias (S30V/G10): http://www.newgraham.com/detail.aspx?ID=6617

HK Nitrous Blitz (154CM/G10): http://www.newgraham.com/detail.aspx?ID=44256

If you like the Alias' look but don't need the better steel you just saved yourself a hundred bucks. Plus you get A/O to boot.

Benchmade is copying off of themselves THIEVES!!! lol.

they don't really seem that similar to me just my .02:confused:

I think the new 913 Drop point Stryker is closer in resemblance to the Alias, especially if you take the thumb ramp off.

Let's see, ones a Ti framelock, the other is a linerlock. One is assisted, one isn't. Different blade styling.

Yep. Same knife.

If I take my glasses off, they all start to look a lot alike.

Even with my glasses on . . .

What we're seeing is the semi-tactical black resin look alikes saturating the market. That's why the upscale makers are moving away from the look, bringing back bolsters, convex shaped handles, shine on blades, texturing grips, etc. You can tell a Hinderer, Mayo, or Strider at five feet - the linked knives would be a guessing game at two.

Distinct style sells for more due to it's exclusivity. It's what separated Spyderco from the pack, and it's a substantial foundation of making a brand identity that consumers will trust.

It's what killed off slipjoints for buyers looking for style in the '70's - we went to Gerber, not Buck, and then Benchmade, not Case. Now we're seeing the same thing in the "tacky-full" genre.

The next generation of buyers? High end multiblade slipjoints with milled liners and fancy blade finishes? Who knows?

The lanyard hole and the torx screw on the back of the knife are in totally opposite locations on the two knives. They have the same color handles kinda, but the similarities end there as far as I can see.

The handles with the cuts out of them are very similar and the general outline is the same.

Someone should tell Benchmade that some of their products look the same. ;)

I guess yeah, they are both made by Benchmade, but the Alias is not designed by Benchmade, and now they're selling a knife that's a (to me) close look-alike to it. I'm sure they have the blessing of Bradley, but still, it just seemed a bit odd.

Leads me to think the Alias must be selling well and they're trying to lure customers to a cheaper 'alternative', much the same way as Benchmade has been thought (by some), to be luring customers from the Sebenza with the Alias.

I guess the next step is one that looks similar to these, made by Frost or some Chinese company, for $20, with a tin foil blade, hardened bubble gum scales, and a coat hanger wire frame.
