OK as ya'll have seen from some of my recent posts, I have been toying with Bushcraft style blades and Scandi grinds. Well this week I finished up this little blue Bushcraft and I think I have my favorite size and shape :) She is sitting between two other tries that work great and led me to Blue. She is 8 5/8 overall with a 4 1/8in blade(tip to handle). The knife is full tang(drilled out for weight reduction) and I used 1/8in thick 1095 for the blade. Scales are blue G10 with stainless pins. I really like this design. It doesn't get too far off the "standard" Bushcraft pattern I'll admit, but why mess with a good recipe? :) I can hardly wait to get to the woods camping and give it a full workout!

(Nudd is not the name of the knife. I meant to type "Nudder" as in another but apparantly editing title is a nogo)

the bottom one with the really high gring looks liek it would work really well, it is my favorite of the lot, as it differs from most other bushcraft knives.

They all work fine :) The bottom one is 3/16 thick. That causes a similar angle to the others to raise the bevel height. The bottom bushy works well but I am leaning towards the slimmer profiles for dealing with smaller detail work and such.

By the way they all look very nice, I like green handles even if they bland too much. Good stuff.

Beautiful.
my fav would be the middle on with the handle of the bottom one.
Or the bottom one with the blade of the middle one.

:)

Another thing with the middle one. Would like the cutting edge to run a bit more into the handle. That bit is the most important for me for carving.

Great job

I think they are really well done and I like the overall shape but the ricasso area is way too big for me.

I like the edge to come real close to the handle. I use that part of the blade a lot in notching and stuff. With the edge so far from the end of the handle like those are it really takes way more effort to cut stuff.

great job Bill:thumbup: I made my first BUshcraft on the larger size and after handleing it I can see why the smaller on is so appealing!!!:D:D

I'm with HD on that. I like the handle shape the best on the top one though.
Looks like I am going to be "needing" another Bushcraft knife.

I like the specs and the steel choice. I also believe that it's the most subtle little differences in variations of a given pattern that make the biggest differences for me. Tiny little tweaks here and there seem to make such a dramatic difference in how I get along with a knife - sometimes they are little things I can change but sometimes they're things I can just "wish" would have been done this way or that way. I really like the Bushcraft pattern and this one has a few "new" characteristics that make it very appealing.

Went back to the woods today for a little R&R :) Took along my Blue Bushy,a BRK&T Nebula, and a small clip piont I recently made. Did a bunch of test cutting with all of em and the little Blue Bushy just worked great! Here are a few pics of some cuts I did. Did a lot of batoning cuts through 1in branches and even managed a few slices in some branches on a recently fallen tree. I was really amazed that even this little blade soared through branches up to 1in thick in a single slice!!! The clip point is one I made to emulate the size knife Bear Grylls carries(yes I am a fan). It hits that not too large, not too small size really well. I made it from 1/4in thick 5160 but with the full flat grinds and a drilled out tang, it doesn't weigh near what one would think. Very handy and tough little blade. The Nebula did ok on most cuts but it's thicker, convex edge wasn't as "bitey" as my other two. Not that it was a bad knife. Far from it. I just preffered the flat grinds over the convex.

Bill that is a sweet picture on top. Something about a blue knife in the woods that just makes sense. Good Stuff.

very nice knives there. the blue one looks much better in action than in that first photo.

about the difference between the bark river convex and you knives...i find that between every knife i pick up there is a slight angle difference for using that you just have to hit for it to bite really nicely. especially if you are using the same knife for a really long time and you are used to it. switching it up means adjusting all your hardware (your hands) to work with a different tool.

Bill, I really like your blue knife... really nice work. I am ordering some black G-10 to play with for the first time...

That little blue feller seems to be as close to the " best all around playin' in the woods " knife that I've seen in quite a while.

What would you charge to make one of those? ( I would probably want it with orange G10 scales so I don't lose it :D )

I agree, Siguy. I went through a ton of BRKTs - two or more in any pattern I was interested in, sorting and trying to get the grind that worked for me and that was similar to the others I was keeping. The thicker knives are the ones I noticed this on. I have a Canadian Special and Kephart that are just plain sweet, which I have kept. Michael Black mentioned this in an article on the T.U.S.K in the June '08 Knives Illustrated. I have had some I could get super sharp but they had too much meat out toward the edge to efficiently travel between the "chip" and the workpiece - cutting wood. It seems to be hit or miss and has kept me from buying an Aurora BUT, the Nebula is a Scandi, which shouldn't be subject to that issue and is basically the same all the way 'round as the Aurora. Mike (Stewart) makes some very nice stuff and is a great guy - I am not bashing him or his stuff - I just find "better" ones due to grind differences (per my own preferences) while using them.

Bill!
What's the disposition of the Green one? What are your plans for that one?
