SAK Outrider or Rucksak depending on whether or not you want scissors.

If you mean non-SAK, then I like the Kershaw Lahar. VG-10, nice curve to the handle, not too expensive.

hmmm i never thought of the lahar. im still afraid of the linear lock. i was gonna get it but the liner...i dunno...

I carry a BM griptilian everyday, its a great knife. The Buck is also a good knife but I have never carried one of them. I think you will find that a lot of people here are going to say a SAK of some sort.

ya i know most will say a sak, but i want to know what other folders they are using if not a sak. for me its my griptilian. i know everyone will have a sak on em for the most part, including me.

Benchmade 710 in D2, great steel, good geometry, and tough as nails.
I've batonned with it while locked without any issues. If I bring an axe or a big knife I usually only bring the 710 since it's all I need for my small knife needs.

The only folder I carry in the woods with any regularity is a SAK Outrider, but one other slips through the net – The EKA Big Swede.

I like it because it is simple. It looks ugly, especially with the flathead screws, but works great. The blade shape is ideal for woods stuff I do. It's got a composition of three springs working in parallel. It's easy to clean, and the locking leaver is big and friendly for when I have the phat bungle gloves on, but not so designed as to be easily triggered accidentally. It cuts very well.

I posted these images of the guts in this thread on KF.

I can't say from first hand knowledge, but the Spyderco Manix seems to be well liked as a super-tough folder. It's a framelock, S20V folder.

The other popular super-tough is the Benchmade Rukus

I was going to buy a Manix or a Military to replace my Police, but the fact I wouldn't take them into the sticks meant I couldn't justify it. I'm not entirely certain why. It is perhaps because that Big Swede above strikes me as so agricultural that the Spydercos appear so urban to me. Got to love 'em though.

I have a Old Timer Buzz saw( USA Version) Carbon blades and it is a great blade,It has a liner lock and some mean tweezers & awl.

I always have my BM 710D2

I just can't get into the 710. I have a 710 M2HS that I stopped carrying in leu of the Lahar. I will admit that the 710 is bombproof though. I just don't dig the blade shape. The high speed M2 is good steel.

For me, comfort in hand is important. I recently picked up a Buck 110 and it is a great bargain. It is a good solid knife that is sheeple friendly. I often wear mine in public. You see so many of them, most passersby don't give it a second look. I like the heft and size. It isn't as flashy as some of the knives out there, but I am very happy with mine.

I had an Endura for a short time frame and while. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

I've had a BM Grip (440C) for years - it'd have to improve significantly to be just a disappointment. I've had Buck 110s forever. They are, without a doubt, about the best folder you can get caught in the woods with - if you need just a knife. One of the SAK lock blades - like my Trekker - may be pretty useful, too - with some useful adjunct goodies, too. Maybe a locking, slightly larger version of the Vic Farmer SAK. But, if it's just a knife - a large, sharp, and stout lockback folder - that you need, grab ~$28, inc s/t, and head to Wally World - they sell the US-made classic Buck 110 in a nylon sheath for less than dealer's quantity cost. Everyone needs one... I have a collection, but I'm a nut.

Buck 110 or a SAK-Forester,Outrider or a Farmer.Maybe a Benchmade Griptilian also.710 is a good choise also, but it's just not my type of knive.Really handsome, but the handle was not really comfortable for my hand.

ok so it was like i thought. saks rule for more than jsut a knife, but if you need a knife, buck or benchmade works. and i need to go get a 110, it jsut needs to not have any blade play. hmmm i canty wait to get it though :D

Although I own and have used a number of more "modern" folders, I've used consistently my 31 year old Buck 110, when I've gone into the boonies hundreds of times. It just seems to do whatever I need.

If you like the 110's, check out the Cabela's Alaskan Guide model. In my opinion, it's the best deal going for 110's.
