number 1 camping folder

+1 for the Griptilian. My 551 has been with me on several outings. On the lake, on the trail, great knife.

Griptilian in any of its many forms, 710, some of the other heavy-duty Benchmades; Buck 110, SAK, Leatherman.

I think of the Manix is more of a slicer, regardless of its size and heft.
Also, AFAIK, S30V still hasn't completely proven itself as a "hard use" steel.

Been carrying Delicas into the woods for as long as they've been around. Can't wait to get my hands on the G10 version!

Here's my Grohmann folder helping with the fire:

My mini-Manix tends to get carried more than anything else when I take folders with me. Comfortable, tough, great steel, and good blade geometry, if a little on the thick side.

Manix, hands down. Been carrying one everyday for over 2 years. In the woods, it's taken care of all of my cooking, game cleaning, carving, firecraft and any other needs I might have for a knife. I think it's the next gen. of the 110.

In my opinion, the S30V of my Manix has proven itself as a hard use steel. I've used it harder than I felt I should at times and the blade shows no chips or signs of excessive wear.

Manix or mili, if fixed isnt an option. Always have a farmer though. Anyone have one of the knives of alaska folders? I really like those.

The 12400 NRA Steigerwalt impressed me this past weekend. I batoned with it, cut up food, and made a play around bow and arrow set.

All around, I've always had my emerson commander for the simplicity of use and ease of cleaning. That knife has never let me down. I recently castrated it by dremeling off the wave and adding more thumb ridges in it's place. It works better that way for outdoor use.

The 551 Grip has always been one of my outdoor favorites since I first owned one. It's a great knife, and it's actually pretty easy to pull apart and put back together, which surprised me with all the gizmos inside of it.

I always have a Spyderco Delica or Native clipped on my right pocket and a SAK Hiker in my left pocket. The Spydies are my main blades and the SAK is there for a backup and for the other tools. I usually carry a Swiss Tool in a belt sheath too, which makes the SAK kind of redundant, but I still like carrying both.

Opinels are great folders too. They're simple and unusual and inexpensive. Plus they're great slicers. Not too tough, but tough enough for most of the usual day to day tasks you would perform with a folder anyhow. Sometimes I'll drop one in my pocket, especially when I know I'm going to need a knife for cutting food and carrying a kitchen knife isn't practical. It's probably the best food prep folder I've ever used.

My BM Mini-Grip is my favorite do all knife. I love the ability to one hand open and close compared to the constraints of a SAK to use two hands.

The SAK Treker is still the winner in the woods.

I'm gonna have to go with the Manix. Very hefty back lock, great S-30V steel (which I have used hard with no problems), very ergonomic/comfortable handle, G-10 scales (which I love).

Chris Reeve large regular Sebenza, it's been carried everyday since I got it, and 7 months of that in Iraq using it for many things a knife shouldn't be used for, I love this knife, it dissapears in my pocket until I need it, holds an edge like crazy, feels good, looks amazing, just a great knife
