Number of backsprings reference?

Thanks Elliott!
The two-spring model is not that much different in width than the four-spring. Looks like the liners, missing in the 4-spring, make up the width. I guess 4 blades is gonna be wide regardless!

That's some camera you've got! Even shows the dog hairs! :D
(unless those are yours?:p)

I hadn't noticed Smoky's hairs but I wouldn't be surprised with the amount he's been shedding lately.

I don't really carry my congress knives. I use 'em pretty much for whittling only. (The yellow handled congress has been used on a bunch of projects.)

BTW, the older congress is noticeably svelter in the hand and more rounded/radiused. The difference in weight is 1 7/8 oz. vs. 2 1/4 oz. or about 17%

Yeah, I've got one of those 4 spring yellow congress bricks too. Got it some years ago - was quite surprised and disappointed in it. For two large blades in a knife, two springs is fine, but I don't like to see them use that construction for both large and small blades - and especially not for 4 blades, geez. It adds a lot more weight into a pattern compared to two double end springs, never mind the thickness. But yes, they're easy to make commercially - four identical springs and no blade crinking or fitting.

My experience with the 4-backspring version of the 052 is that the blade stock is pretty thin, so the backsprings are thinner so the snap is less strong.

I like my Queen Amber Bone congrss in D2...made the old fashioned way with two backsprings.
