A few years ago I used to write articles for a magazine in the sporting goods retail industy. Spyderco would send me pre-production samples with a number on the blade. Anyone else ever hear of these? Any special value?
thanks

The first run of collaboration pieces used to be numbered, and there are also a couple hundred of each new variation numbered for the collector's club, but that is the only numbering I am familiar with. If what you have truly are pre-production, they probably have considerable collector value, as those are not generally released.

Can't say for sure, but if all the numbers are the same, and below 200, your editor may well be right. Spyderco may have assigned a specific Collectors Club number to each publication. It would certainly make sense.

OK I had to dig them out to check and they are Collector Club knives I have 5 with a # under 200 0n them. a Shabaria W/letter from Jill Rackliff, a Native C41, A Matriarch W/letter from Jill Rackliff, a Peter Herbst C53, and a Rescue C14BK. I have all of the boxes and papers. The Shabaria, Peter Herbst, and Rescue have seen some light use but no abuse. Any Idea of value?
