Nutrition and Weight Training

I also check the label and found no mention of either. This is the Met-rx Nutritional drink mix. Maybe the protien mix or other item has this ingredient? Please let us know.

Hi guys. Looks like maybe you can relax. Since I don't use it I didn't keep up on it. I'm told that due to numerous complaints that Ma Huang has been removed from metrx. Anybody else have any info on this? I apologize if I caused you any worries, but please still look into this for yourselves.

Larry, I'm sorry but that is not true. Pat Casey was one of my heroes growing up but he never benched 800 or even 700. Pat was the first man ever to bench press 600 lbs., the first to squat 800 lbs., and the first powerlifter to total over 2000 lbs. He set those records without the rediculous bench shirts and squat suits worn nowadays.
More than 25 years ago he also did an unassisted set of 10 reps with 210 lb. dumbells that was witnessed by Steve Merjanian and Chuck Ahrens. There is a brand new book called Pat Casey:King of the Powerlifters by Bruce Wilhelm available from Ironmind. The amazing thing about Pat was how effortlessly most of his lifts looked and how far he was ahead of the other lifters of his day. Pat Casey was and is a legend among strength athletes from the days of Peanuts West's Westside gym. There were reports that Paul Anderson benched 600 way back then but it was never done in competition.

The first man who ever bench pressed 700 lbs. in competition was Ted Arcidi at the 1986 Hawaiin Invitational Powerlifting meet. I have the video of the meet, he did 705 lbs. on his third attempt. Ted trained at our gym a few times in the 80's while he was traveling through. While he was impressive, IMO he was no Pat Casey. At present there are still less than 25 men who have ever gone over 700 in competition. One of them, who is a buddy of mine named Chris Confessore did 741 lbs. weighing only 240 lbs. which is remarkable because all the others weigh 275 lbs. and up, most being over 300 lbs.

Sifu, I'm familiar with the policeman you mentioned though I believe he recently resigned from police work to travel and do promotional work.

The drug situation is really unbelievable and disgusts me. Personally, I'd rather bench 500 lbs knowing I did it than do 800 lbs knowing I had to take drugs to do it. It has really affected all areas of strength sports and many who have the potential to be among the best choose to lift in obscurity rather than having to deal with these guys. It has caused the price of entering drug free meets to go up in order to cover the price of the drug tests. Whatever happened to self esteem, honor, and pride in knowing that you did your best?

well of course he quit LEO work, he went for the $$ and who can blame him? but if this guy isnt clean............then who is?? (answer - no one)

one of my high school buds was doing a bunch of stuff (dianabol, water base tes, etc) and flipped out and beat his girlfriend to death w/a weight lifting belt and a dumbbell, and then shot himself a few wks later - so i have been touched as deeply as anyone by juices, this happened in the early 80's, long before ya heard of roid rage, etc - but i dont know if anabolics are as dangerous as the stuff people do now, like insulin, that stuff wont kill ya 20 yrs down the road, ya mess up and do toooo uch and it kills ya today, right now - and who knows WTF growth hormone will do? i dont know if the sport hasnt traded a bad thing for something worse.....personally, i wouldnt do any of it now UNLESS i was just a little bit weak in some areas and was pretty sure of a career in the NFL, etc , then , and only then , maybe - those who do it for a trophy, are, imho, fools (and i know several lol)

will be intersting to see how these guys do when they get older.....
