I've a similar thread on the dog forum but because it isn't linked I decided to put them in here as well. I had the day off and my kids were being kids so I decided that we do some batoning and fire starting and compare the NWA knife against the SYKCO Mutt CG and the SRKW Ratmandu (baring it all with just a bit of G10 to cover those private parts).

From left to right. The Ratmandu, it comes covered in grey coating. I didn't like it so I stripped and polished it a bit. I also gave it more of a second edge. In the middle the NWA knife with green micarta scales, it looks greenish but the blade has more of a grey undertone. On the right we have the original version of the Mutt in black coating and the ole Busse Basic handles.

The fire is taking a bit to start, thats why in real live we prefer central heating. Although as you can see from the pictures the temperatures are in the high 70s in the southern hemisphere early summer. You got to love Africa, even if it is just for the weather.

Fire, here we come:

Very nice pics - good to see the sharps being used for what they're meant for. I love the NWA! So glad I got one.

Cool pics  Alll awesome knives, but I'm a bit partial to Nick's knife ;) Great to see you put it right to work, it will serve you well.

Great pics ;Glad I jumped on the ban wagon and Placed an order for 2 ,Sometime in November is my Projected date on holding them but that is fine ,I just re-read old threads and look at all pictures post and smile !

I like the NWA the best because no choil notch in the blade.

I'm a sucker for choils and when it comes to detailed work the Mandu is easier to handle than the NWA. But I like to try different type of knives and just enjoy them. If I don't like them then I give'em as presents to my family. My brother owns may first self-designed custom (the second updated generation should arrive before Xmas), gave my first piece of Infi to my older son and the younger one is on the list to receive a Mandu in green/tan with leather pants in 2 months.

I've a couple of queens (mostly rare howlers) but even then I make exceptions. A rare tan 1st gen Howlers is one of my EDC's and probably one of the best designed knives ever.

But this is a NWA thread and this knife rocks, congrats to Nick for making such a fine piece of cutlery.

Interesting.

In what way easier?

I always find that the farther the blade edge from the handle the less leverage I can get cutting. Describe what you are talking about. I'm intrigued.

Choils are only good for a limited amount of cuts. If you really have to do a lot of work they'll give you a blister. And, if you need to really make some tough cuts, you need to choke up, as HD said.

JMHO. Not worth much.

Edited to add. Great thread, nice pics, and Nicks knife rocks!!!!

On a small knife a choil is of limited used and in many cases a nuisance, but for bigger knives it gives you the option to choke. Its not ideal but you can hold is closer to what you are cutting. yes, after a while you will get blisters but this is better than being cut.

Thanks for the great feedback Bodhi. Great pics too:thumbup: Let me know if there is anything else I can do for ya.

Nick:)

Amazing looking knives! Especially the NWA knife doing its' fair share of work.
