My grandfather and I have completed our No Weld Grinder this past week and are in the process of hooking the grinder up to a motor. We have tried two- 1 Hp motors and had no luck. The first was spinning the wrong direction and was non reversible. That was a 1700 rpm motor. The second is another 1 Hp that was running at 3400 rpm and it got hot and kept blowing the fuse. Now that we are back in the market for another motor, what speed should we be looking for- 3400 rpm or 1700 rpm?
If it helps, I have a 3 step pulley- 4,3, and 2 inch dia. The drive wheel is 4" in dia.

Thanks for your help and time,
Tanner. S

With step pulleys, I'd go with the 1700. That way you can have basically 3400, 1700, and 850 RPM, which with a 4" drive wheel is roughly the same as your SFM/belt speed.

Okay, thank you, we'll look for a 1700 then.
Thanks for your time,
Tanner. S
