Is there anywhere local i pick up sone springs for my nwg. Need some today im.having grinding withdraws lol.

I know it's Sunday but any hardware store should have something. Just take a measurement of what you need and try to get a fairly heavy spring. Tight tension makes for better tracking, and if it's too tight, you can always adjust your tooling arm.

Even an old trampoline spring could probably be made to work in a pinch.

Home Depot, lowes etc. any hardware store that is open should have what you need. There are also lots of places to salvage one. As was stated possibly a trampoline spring, the return spring off your screen door, tension spring off a futon or hide a bed lol. Just make sure it's back where it came from before your other half catches you.

lol thankfully I didn't have to a swipe one from anything the wife would have caught me at. eric seen my post here and went to lowes. sent me a pic of the exact ones I needed for this grinder. they work perfectly. done my first hollow grind on a piece of scrap steel it turned out perfect. much easier to keep straight than on my craftsman. now I see why everyone says to wait until you can afford a good grinder and not go with the cheapos. I will say using the craftsman probably helped me out a ton more than anything else could have. just because I was always fixing mistakes from a flimsy warped platen.

You're making that Craftsman grinder look less and less appealing. :D

Glad you got it worked out. I was gonna say that they have some strong springs by the specialty hardware, but it sounds like you found some good parts. :)

Now let's see what you can do! ;)

lol if I wanted to make a new platen for the craftsman it would have been fine. mine is the old 3 wheel version. the platen only attaches on the bottom just like the harbor freight 1x30 but bigger. I would think the only problem with a new one would be the speed.
