NY Bowie

The more I look at this one, the more I realize, it aint so easy to make a 13" bowie look this sleek and graceful, I'm reminded of a few Fitch bowies in this size range, which were, well, less than graceful... Not that they weren't nice, but Don has a way of really making the shape and lines of the knife work for him. I just wish I could buy it... :)

Today at the show I handled this knife and a few others from this maker. All of his knives are incredible to say the least.

I had the priviledge of handling that and several other of Don's knives at the show and i'm still in awe.Pure Grace.

...try, try again, which I did, and so, this 13" bad boy is now mine. :)

Ah yes, I love 13" of long, hard, slender, ummmmm, hey, what were YOU thinking about! :)

It really took some doing though, I don't mind telling you, had to scramble some quick cash, so naturally, I started dancing at Chippendales again... At first, all they threw at me were tomatoes, then spare change, but it adds up... :) Yeah right, if you knew me, and pictured my less than rock-hard 6'8 375 lb body male stripping, well, it would be an image you wouldn't soon forget, though you would want to, oh, how you'd want so badly to :)

Don cautioned me to not get burned out on his bowies, I have gone a little Hanson crazy in the last few months, but, I told him that I don't get burned out on what I genuinely believe is the finest quality available, which I have come to believe is true of Don's work. I probably sound like a Hanson groupie lately, but I can't help it, I firmly believe Don is making some of the finest fixed blades out there, and I can't get enough of them, (or hadn't you noticed) :), and when I receive each new bowie, I am continually amazed at the workmanship, materials and style, so, yes, I am vocal about my newest "find" and new, favorite maker, but Don deserves it.

This will be the largest bowie I have ever owned, and it's hard to believe such a large bowie can look so sleek and "right". Since I just got a light tent, and can maybe, finally take some decent indoor pictures, I should have some good shots of it in a week or so. Can't wait, half the fun for me in acquiring a new knife is seeing how well I can photograph it. And, Don's bowies love the camera. :)

I really didn't think i'd end up with this one, but, I am a very persistant guy. :)

Bloody Hell - carry on like this and you will have the M&MC running after you and possibly some competition law specialists!

Seriously though, Don's work is very impressive and on my list, but of all his fixed blades this is the one that really floats my boat - good catch.

I had a feeling that this incredible Bowie would wind up with you Ari, four hours into the show and unsold it was destiny. I did have the pleasure of handling her and she is one of the sexiest and most graceful blades you will find..the hamon on the damascus though not everybody's cup of tea breathes life into this piece born from ancient fires...Congrats.
p.s better to burn out than fade away...

Or, according to Neil Young, better to burn out than it is to rust... :)

I like your words: "breathes life into this piece born from ancient fires"

I guess you know how old Don really is... :)

BTW, this bad boy should be here tomorrow!!! :)

Oh, and as for Danbo questioning whether a Hamon looks good on a damascus blade, well, 2 things strike me. 1) If I know Don, and I think I do, the Hamon is perfectly and gracefully integrated into, and a welcome addition to the knife, and 2) Dan is obviously not taking his meds again, very sad to see, and so soon after they had finally felt safe in removing the corks from the dinner utensils too...... :)
