NYCKS: Where was everyone?

Good Afternoon All-

Esav, regarding the Baby SnG described....not to sound like my grandmother, but, "You stop that teasing this instant!"

That would be the perfect update for a small, yet beefy knife like my Benchmade Mini-AFCK or plain-edge 705. It sounds very sweet, so I'm absolutely looking forward to pictures from the show. All that can say right now is WOW.

Guess you shouldn't read that there's a fixed blade version in the works?

GarageBoy, that block/ blade tang assembly was glued! I think Bob will be sending you a bill soon! :)

Dave, how could you let that stag handled Hunter model fly home without you? :) Forget about the Carson! ;)

I so much wanted to go but had test at the FDNY, than sat was a study session for my paramedic exam and same today plus a date with a beautiful Polish blond girl... Damn it! Well there is always next year!

I spotted Lifter, PhilL, Win Heger that I am sure of. I think I saw Fisherk in conversation. I had a grey backpak and a 'SharpByCoop' nametag. I brought my Nikon and had a corrupted card. I didn't take a bunch of photos, but nothing stuck anyway. Bahhh.

I walked away with a Lourens Prinsloo folder, a Boguszewski KILLER lockback, a Daniel Winkler fighter/bowie, and a Remington pattern twin blade by a Japanese maker that is so frikkin clean I couldn't resist. Darrell turned me on to a little 'Sizzle' semi-auto. I can't stop playing with it... :D

I got a little bit of everything. Not enough conversations, though. Never enough....

I'm not that familiar with getting around the City, even though I've been there numerous times,go figure.

Tombstone,

Not hard. Takes about 15 minutes to walk from Grand Central to the Hotel Pennsylvania, which is across from Penn Station/Madison Square Garden.

The March, 2005 show is further uptown, I think. Send me e-mail at alan.antopol@verizon.net, when the March show is upcoming, and I will send directions back.

Yeah finding your way around NYC is pretty easy. All the streets are numbered and go in order. So if you go one block and are further away from the address you want, turn and walk back the other way. Same goes for the avenues too.

Also subway stations are usually within a couple of blocks of the show location. Makes it real easy to get off the train and walk a few blocks. Even if you have never been there before!

Tombstone,

Real easy to get from Grand Central via subway if the weather is bad. From GCS take "S" subway line ( the shuttle) to Times Square. At times square, take the # 1,2, or 3 train Downtown 1 stop, to 34th st/ Penn Station. Follow signs to exit on 33rd and Seventh Ave - U R there!

Careful... There are four other boroughs in NYC that don't exactly follow this standard... ;)

Alan A -

NICE rum! very tasty. After you and I asked Murray Carter to sharpen that huge 1/4" thick square-edged steel knife blank you had on you (heh heh...), I wound up stumbling around and emptying my wallet for an assortment of knives. Amazing what can happen on an empty stomach combined with some quality spirits.

Thanks Alan and everyone else for the help.Doesn't sound too bad,so I shouldn't get lost.Well perhaps I will consider going to the show in the spring. Thanks!

That's when we go Tourist dodging!
Tourist dodging should be an Olympic Event...

Most of Manhattan is easy to navigate.* The subway is great. Driving and parking is nuts. I grew up here and haven't driven in Manhattan yet.
If you're nervous about the subway (don't be) you can jump in a cab.

*As long as you're not looking up.

Tourist dodging and bootlegger dodging in Chinatown should be Olympic sports. The ultimate reflex test when an idiot decides to stop infront of you and gawk

I got there Fri. around 1:30 and was there Sat. afternoon also. Saw Ebbtide, PhilL, Win Heger, Nakano at the Dozier table, BCaffery as well as many makers.

Maybe someone should come up with some sort of classy name tag like those that USN has. This would make it easier to identify each other at these events. Perhaps they could be marketed through 1SKS??? A small donation to the Forums?? Just a suggestion.

Otherwise--a nice show, although the number of attendees seemed a bit lower than previous years.
