Oh, and if you really want to avoid wearing out your lock, then you must avoid playing with it and flipping it just for fun. one may be surprised how long these locks last when they are only used when needed!

I think it is difficult to decribe the difference in words. If you really want to confirm, then i would suggest loosening your pivot so you can feel the blade play on the knife, then gradually tighten it back up checking how it feels along the way. but just know that most folding knives have a degree of flex that is not considered blade play. the best way i can desrcribe it is when it feels loose enough that you feel compelled to tighten the pivot. But too tight and it affects the opening of the blade.

I have a BM940 that has this kind of a pivot. It feels like it is either too tight and thus opening is bad, or it is too loose and thus there is bladeplay. There seems to be no happy medium.

Yea, when i have compared 940 with 940-1 in stores, the 940-1 normally doesn't have blade play where the regular 940 often has a small amount. My 940-1 has absolutely no blade play, but my valet has its good and bad days but at worst case its only just barely
