Tim makes some of the best knives on the planet. The steel and the finish. Lynn Thompson said he is one of the few makers to produce better than Cold Steel Carbon V quality.

Tim Zowada has an 8 year backlog and is no longer taking orders. But you're right, his knives look awesome, I've been eyeing his "Available Knives" page for a while, but nothing ever turns up.

Will somebody please tell me that Lynn Thompson didn't really say that?

Wow, that's mighty big of Lynn to say such a generous thing. He needs to start marketing the 'Proof' tape as the best non-chemical sleep-aid for insomniacs ever invented. Works great everytime.

I've admired Tim's work for years. But LOTS of folks make great knives with O-1.

RenField, I've been using that name on and off (I have MPD) in posts involving Vampire Gerbil. Is he your master too?

It's true, unfortunately, that Tim Zowada isn't taking orders and has an 8-yr waitlist.

But since we're on the theme of endorsements, Zowada has stated that, if he didn't make his living with damascus, he would use Busse's INFI in all of his knives.

And the sentiment is apparently mutual. Jerry Busse has also mentioned here on the forum that, in his opinion, Zowada is the best bladesmith working today.

(Wonder what Lynn Thompson has to say about that...)

Hey guys,

Does Tim Zowada have a website? I'd like to see his work. Thanks for the info.

RenField, I see that you are new here. And also that you are prolific. Welcome to Bladeforums. The Master Vampire, Vampire Gerbil (VG for short), will no doubt make his presence felt by you in due time. He is a moderator in the community forum. Search his posts and be amazed (did I mean amused?). I guarantee that you will be unable to resist his charms. But be warned, if he should reveal himself in the form of his alter ego, Lorena, run like heck. Again, Welcome.

"As of July 1, 1999 I will be no longer taking orders for custom knives. I am backlogged for at least the next eight years. I believe that it would be inconsiderate to continue taking orders and not have any idea when I could ever fill them." -Tim Zowada

ha ha ha ha!Thats funny.I dont think i could ever wait for anything for eight years..especially one of Tim Zowada's knives...

Are you positive Lynn said that?

I'm not sure exactly how IUBI meant his post, but having met and talked with Tim Zowada, as well as seen and handled a number of his knives, there is a very good reason why he is in such demand. His craftsmanship is artistry, and he is quite a gentleman, knowledgable and helpful, informative, and proud of his work, yet not boastful of his talents. He lets his work do the talking, which from what I've seen, is outstanding.

Eight years? Seems like just a short time ago it was only two or three. I guess the word is out.

When I got on his waiting list about a year ago, the wait was maybe 4 years. My, how the orders flood in!

I've had the opportunity to meet Tim at a Custom Knife and Guild Show and he truly is a gentleman. His damascus utility knife was one-of-a-kind. I had never handled a knife like that one before or since. He didn't require a deposit to be placed on the list, so it's no loss there. Until my name comes up, I'll patiently wait and buy other knives. No biggie.
