This is one of my favorite knives. The walnut has such wonderful figure to it, and the steel is top notch tool steel. First, the steel. It is O-7, DIN 1.2519, used in the production of band saws in Germany, and not found very often in America. It has a healthy dose of Tungsten for excellent wear resistance and toughness. Roman Landes, German metullurgist, is quite fond of 1.2519, preferring it used at high hardness with thin acute edges. Exactly what is needed in a hunting knife and kitchen knife. The blade has been hardened and tempered to 63HRC, plenty hard to have excellent edge retention, but not too hard that field sharpening becomes difficult. Second, the geometry. The grind is what you would expect on a custom hunting knife, a full flat grind to zero (technically about .003"), with a secondary edge applied at 24° inclusive (that's 12° per side!). Sharpening was done with DiaSharp diamond plates, Coarse, Fine, Extra Fine, and Extra Extra fine. The EEF plate is rated at 8k, but being it is a brand new plate, the grit rating is closer to 2k, which works very well slicing thru meat/tissue. With the super sharp edge, thin grind, and refined apex, the knife will feel like a razor blade with a beautiful handle! Which brings me to my third point of interest, the handle. What a gorgeous piece of Claro Walnut! The figure is excellent and has wonderful color. White G10 liners are sandwiched between the walnut and the tang for a classy elegant look. Finished with Watco Danish oil and a few wax coats for a satin look, secured with black micarta pins and epoxy. The tang has been drilled for weight reduction as well.

OAL: 8 3/4"
Blade: 3 3/4"
Handle: 5"
Thickness at ricasso: 0.095"
