O.K. I hadn't heard this, Sal. A Kerambit?

Over on General, Sal sayeth, and I quote-"Our version of Warren Thomas original Kerambit (out later this year) is made from SS."

Now I'm forced to ask, folder or fixed, if folder-lock type, steel type, blade length, and most important, can I play with it at Spirit of Steel? :D

Jack

It is just an all-steel version of the Warren Thomas folding kerambit (which is normally all Ti). Frame-lock, and VG-10 I believe.

Here is a photo of a custom:

Very Cool. Can't wait. I noticed that on many of WT's folders , he countersinks the thumb hole a bit too much so that the thumb grip is not as great as on prod. Spydies where the thumb hole is often just buffed. You can even see it in the pic above.

I have one of the customs and I think the thumb hole could also be a little bigger.

Hi Donovan. Carlos' info is correct.

Thanx Carlos.

Kublai, we "Spyderized" the hole. Larger & easy open. We also are using a double flat grind instead of the one side grind that Warren uses.

ArchAngel, Warren designed the knife with a "Chris Reeve Style" integral linerlock so that's the way we made it.

Outstanding, Sal. I was very close to getting a Kerambit, but I will wait for Spyderco's version. And thanks to Carlos for the being fast and accurate. :)

Wow, that is one cool blade. I will be buying one for Christmas.

Spyderco has really come out with a lot of amazing models lately.

yayyyy! I'm glad I haven't plonked down any money for M-tech or EKI yet. Sal, I hope you can keep the cost down for us folks who don't have lots of cash....

may I ask why stainless steel (heavy), instead of titanium or G10 + titanium?

thanks

Cost. A Ti handle with framelock would put it in the price range of the ATR. SS is the only other handle material that can be used for framelocks.

G10 would require a total redesign, and a whole new development process (think a couple years). This knife is sneaking into production quickly because it is based on an already refined design.

I'll pay for a S30V blade with a Titanium handled kerambit at the price of the ATR!

WOW! It looks amazing, but I have a feeling it will go the way of the Dive Probe - something that has a short run and shows up occasionally for $$$$$$. Must start budgeting now. :D

Hopefully, Spyderco will apply a black almite coat or at the very least a very dark beadblast/subdued finish, darker than on the Spydercard.
It looks to be a real nice design, but with that much steel sticking out of the pocket, it is blasting out for attention(suspicision). If it maintains a bright satin finish, I'm betting it people will buy it , but won't carry it hardly at all. People tend to carry knives that are more lower profile and draw less attention as EDC, realistically.
I can kind of see the point of people getting bored with black, but like the round wheel, until a better, more practical, efficient shape comes along, it is what works. And black is still the best and universal blend for most clothes. The more handle that will stick out/be exposed in a particular model, the more vital it is to subdue it's exposed surfaces. Just being practical.

take care,
Ken

thats what i would like to know too. If it's held together by screws and can be taken apart then i would highly consider getting one. If you can't take it apart, I don't think i'll be getting one. And btw please make it with a reversible clip for left pocket carry!

I'm still waiting to see the Spyderco Balisong. What's the word these days on it?
