This is a 1997 Bruce Willis movie that rated *** 3 Three Stars in our weekly newspaper TV Guide.
I'm watching it as I write this so if I babble you know why.:D  ;)

I know there's several SciFi fans here in the forum and if you haven't seen this movie you need too, but then I'm a big Bruce Willis fan as is Barbie so you may not like it!!!! ;)
The civilization on Earth is portrayed as many of the old SciFi writers concieved of with flying cars, many, many high rise buildings, apartments like I've read about already in Japan but with the really advanced appliances.
The aliens are great, it's a good versus evil plot, there's a shady artifacts dealer, a beautiful red haired girl and Bruce Willis and it's SciFi at it's best!!!! But bear in mind -It Is A Bruce Willis- movie and you know how good he is at spoofing things sometimes.
There is sadness, suspense, fighting no edged weapons so far dammit :( , love, sorta so far and of course, Humor.
I, know, of course how it's going to end, Bruce and the mysterious red headed gal is going to save the Earth and the universe by destroying the evil that was foretold of 5,000 years ago and kept secret by a society of priests and all will be well.
But this is the first really entertaining SciFi movie I've seen in ages and ages. I may even see if I can buy it so I can watch it again many times.:D
I just wish Barbie was awake to see it and make some popcorn. ;)

Yvsa--great flick. I saw it when it first came out on video and kicked myself for not seeing it in the theater.

A good fun movie,
although I've never seen all of it.
Usually I get to see the last half.
Or the middle part.
Just a couple of days ago I got to see the first half hour.
I need to rent it and watch it from start to end.

I was absolutely sure someone here had seen it Josh.:D

It is available at Amazon......
Here's the rundown on the cast as well as the DVD info. Now I gotta check out this next movie, looks like SciFi night on TBS.:D
OK, it's the 2,000 movie Dungeons & Dragons. Haven't seen it either, hope I can stay awake, of all nights to be getting sleepy early.
The Martian Chronicles Part 2 are gonna be on the SciFi channel later, sure wish I had it but I don't. I've been looking at the Dish Network's lineup and they have the SciFi channel on one of their offerings that's not anymore costly than cable, but I'm just not sure about the service. Anyone know?

Sounds interesting. I'll look out for it. Do you remember the rating (have an 11-year old)?

No 11 year old Aardvark, my grandkids are mostly all older than that;), but it has a 3 star rating in our weekly newspaper TV Guide.:D

Oh, I think maybe you're telling me you have an 11 year old? Doh!
I would let my kids watch it if I had any that had an attention span that long. As Dean said, "It's a good fun movie.":D

IIRC there is a very brief bit of nudity in the movie, towards the beginning (cloning does not re-grow clothing), but not totally gratuitous. Preview it first and judge for yourself (you wont mind watching it twice). I think I'd let my 11-year-old watch, but your mileage might vary. :)

The movie is fun to watch. I can't even remember how many times I've seen it.

Yvsa,
Fifth element is a lot of fun.
Let me recommend that you watch the original father of truly great modern SCIFI movies of this kind.
Blade Runner (the original, narrated version)
Most people saw fifth element and thought it was a Blade Runner sequel.
(not really, but kinda)
Blade Runner is for grown ups (a little more serious tone)
youll love it.

5th Element is a cool movie. Noticed it was on tonight but was watching something else already. The Rating is PG-13.

Yvsa, we have Satalite VIA Direct TV. Has some pretty cool channels. SciFi, The history channel, animal planet, TNT, FX, TBS, AMC, to name a few. Plus we get local channels which is nice. With out Satalite setup we got TiVo which allows you to record shows and watch then when you want to, plus pause live TV. :) You find a show on the Direct TV tv guide that you want to watch that is showing while you are asleep or out, no problem, just set the Tivo to record it and watch the show when you want to. Really quite easy.:D

I saw it in theaters, and own it on VHS (hey, it came out in the 20th centure, what can I say). Luc Besson's best movie, I think. Milla Jovovich is quite cute, and the action is non-stop. Plenty of crazy aliens, star-studded cast, nice soundtrack to fit the movie. FIVE stars is more like it!

Rent it or own it. The editing they did for TV did drop some content. The movie isn't particularly gory for the amt of violence in it.

I do agree that it has a Sequel to BR feel to it, and i swear that Lucas borrowed heavily from these movies when developing the city-planet of Coruscant in Star Wars episodes 1&2.

Luc Besson is a visionary. He's done some other cool/surreal movies as well. Other movies he was involved in that I thot were good were Transpoter, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, La Femme Nikita (CLASSIC!), Point of No Return (American adaptation of La Femme Nikita).

Nooooooooooo!
Not the narrated version.
Got to get the director's cut!
No narration dude.

Great movie either way,
but, dude...............

Gary Oldman is terrific.

My two favourite parts of the movie is the product demonstration..(his new weapon the ZF1 just keeps unfolding...)

And the part where he explains to the priest how life must have destruction and chaos in order for humanity to progress.

"You're a monster Zorg..."

"I know..."

I suppose it's ....... OK. I guess that's why I've seen it five times - just to study whether I like it or not. :D

I kinda had it figured that most of y'all had seen it. :D I enjoyed the movie and was thoroughly enertained. You don't get that too often these days of the blood and guts and things going boom just because they can do it.
The Dungeons & Dragons was alright but not as good as The Fifth Element.

Thanks for the satellite info Heber. I don't recall if it's offered with the Tivo here or not, I'll have to check into it.:D

"ba-da-boom"

my favorite line....my kids now say it all the time....Oh, and we have an adapted version too:

"Daaaadddd! Asa has bottom-boom!"

:D  :D

Our other favorite is "mooooltipass" (multipass) - which surprisingly enough, shows up quite a bit at retail places....someone will ask us if we want to buy a multipass...and we'll start bustin' up laughing....:D....poor sales lady has no idea....

:D

Gary Oldman was wonderful. This movie was my first time seeing him in a role and he did great.

BTW, I'm new here.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

And to the Cantina!

Check out "Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are dead" for classic Gary Oldman. Absolutely love it. Have a copy. Most people don't like it, though....including Ebert who gave it zero stars....;)...but it's based on the Tom Stoppard play...so it can't be too bad, right? :D

Oh...and don't forget to grab a khukuri or two while you're here....:D
