O.T. Movie, "The Fifth Element" Don't know how I missed it.

Yes....tough choice. AFAIC, you could take either. Just close your eyes and pick....;)

Welcome to the Cantina, WLD.

The 5th Element is my favorite movie...even considered getting the "element" tattoo (though not on my arm).

I'd probably be a little more comfortable with a 13 y/o seeing it than an 11 year old, just because of the orgasm. I mean, sure, sex is much more a natural and healthy act than indiscriminate killing, but I'd hate to confuse the kids.

Zorg: Father, by creating a little destruction, I am, in fact, encouraging life! So, in reality, you and I are in the same business!

Cornelius: Destroying a glass is one thing..killing people with the weapons you produce is quite another.

Zorg: Let me reassure you Father..I will never kill more people in my entire life than religion has killed in the last 2000 years.

Check out "Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are dead" for classic Gary Oldman. Absolutely love it. Have a copy. Most people don't like it, though....including Ebert who gave it zero stars....;)...but it's based on the Tom Stoppard play...so it can't be too bad, right? :D

I LOVED that movie! But wasn't it "Gildenstern and Rosencrantz are dead"? (Might make it easier to find.) I wonder if most people didn't like it because they weren't familiar enough with "Hamlet". Of course, popping in Mel Gibson's "Hamlet" and then watching "G & R are dead" wouldn't be a bad little movie night at all. At the time I saw it, I didn't know who Gary Oldman was. In fact, Richard Dreyfuss was the only actor in the film that I recognized. I really need to buy my own copy of that film, it's never in the rental places when I go looking for it.

I liked the book/play a lot. It was called "Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are dead". Can't comment on the move title. Haven't seen it.

I think Mac was making a pun - based on the characters' endless squabble over who's named what....:D

nice one, Mac. ;)

When my friends and I first saw that, we deliberately butchered the title to "Gildencrantz and Rosenstern" or "Rosenstern and Gildencrantz" whenever we talked about the movie. I think it got to a point where we couldn't say the name correctly if we tried. :D

I'd love to take credit for being that clever, but I really did think the names were reversed. :footinmou Maybe that's why I could never find it in the video stores! DOH! :o Thanks for the benefit of the doubt, Dan. :)

I think we could work a freudian slip in there somewhere...:D

Nooooooooooo!
Not the narrated version.
Got to get the director's cut!
No narration dude.

Great movie either way,
but, dude...............

The director's cut is the way to go on Blade Runner. Great movie. I would also recommend the Book that Blade Runner was based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? By Philip K. Dick. Milla Jovovich...well...hmmm...she is a pretty girl (understatment of the day) and I will just leave it at that. ;)
I think that Luc Besson's best movie was Léon (The Professional).

I could say that about the movie "Syd and Nancy."

The Professional! How couls I have forgotten. Gary's in there too, along with a young "Princess Amidalla."(Natalie Portman)

Keith

just the sound of that name "princess -----" makes me shudder....

girls all over the world screaming "I wanna be like princess ______"

 :barf:

I'm so glad I have boys....:footinmou

It (The Professional) has some of my favorite actors and actresses in it. I must say that if you haven't seen the Director's cut you need to but be warned it does examine the relationship between Jean Reno and Natalie Portman's character a little more in depth and it is a little...awkward at times.

Well, Leon (Jean Reno) does alot more training with Mathilda (Natalie Portman). Alot more then just the scene with the sniper rifle on the roof. Going to people's apartments and shooting them etc. The major thing that was cut was scenes with Mathilda talking about how she loves Leon and trying to convince him to...ahhh...have sex with her. No other way to put it. It is kind weird (well for me at least) to watch a 11 year old girl trying to seduce a grown man. I could see why that version was not released in here in the U.S. You also learn why Leon came to America and why he is a hit man. Very well done and handles everything in a manner that keeps it from being too twisted but in alot of ways it does not play the same as the version that was released here. There is just alot more covered then a girl "being in love with her hero" and trying to avenge the death of her family.

Edited to add Dan you have a package on the way!

In the movie the 5th element what I enjoyed the most and has stuck with me has the "Diva's" opera.
we have a community radio station here that one of the DJ's recently played her aria. Same DJ played the music for the movie "the Triplett's of Bellville" (fun movie!)

Blessed with wacky radio

My memory is screwed to hell and back sometimes. I didn't realize just which movie, "The Professional," y'all was talking about until Mark posted the thumbnail.

I really liked that movie, saw it on TV a while back and wouldn't mind seeing it again. I did think it was a little short changed on the training part of it though. Director's cut you say, hmm.:)
Glad I started this thread!!!!:D
That's two on the list to order from Amazon now, at least it's not as expensive as khuks. ;)

Thanks for the satellite info Heber. I don't recall if it's offered with the Tivo here or not, I'll have to check into it.:D

No problem Yvsa! Here is the link to Direct TV's TiVo page: Direct TV with TiVo. It should have all the information that you need.

The TiVo is a Satelite reciver with built in DVR (Digital Video recorder) that records the shows to a hard drive. There are other DVR devices on the market, but the Direct TV with TiVo package is a lot less expencive then the stand alone DVRs. A really good deal and great service. We really enjoy ours. :D

One of my favorite movies. I've watched it many times. Never boring :)
It received unfair, harsh critique in US, and I suspect because it was not made in hollywood.
