O/T Stainless steel...

How does stainless steel (ATS-55, 440V, AUS 8 etc) compare to Mercedes Benz leaf springs for edge retention and edge holding qualities? Also how easy is this stuff to sharpen?

Stainless steel is *very* brittle compared to spring steel, many times to one. If you don't exceed its durability however, the edge retention will be higher than spring steels. Sharpening is fine with a clean and quality hone. Even the harder Cr carbides are like soft cheeze when compared to a quality abrasive.
