O.T. The Avian Flu- One Case of Human to Human In S.E. Asia...

email sent on Munk's revolver. :D

If the world's going to hell, I need something to shoot my neighbor with, to get his food. He's got a nicer house than me too....

Seriously though, it does seem like some strange times in the world. As a relatively young guy I haven't lived through much. I was born 2 years before Vietnam ended, so I don't remember that.

The first Gulf war didn't amount to a tremendous amount in the scheme of things.

But now things seem different ... 9/11; U.S. Admin. diverting all available funds to try and secure the world's oil; Tsunami; katrina and the lack of all available funds to deal with it; earthquake in Pakistan; plus a whole lot more....

It feels to me like the Earth itself is coming apart/trying to shake us off. And people/governments are coming apart too. There is a huge disagreement of how to run the world (just look at our last "election"), and many civilized countries absolutely hate one another.

Guess I keep wondering/coming back to, the Mayan calender which ends in 2012. Why is that?

I live just outside of Boston. My strategy should TSGD is to walk out of the city, with as much gear stuffed in my pack as possible. If I can drive, that is a blessing, but not one I am counting on.

Maybe I'll walk to Carter's house, with Munk's revolver strapped to my side, and just start chopping wood.

And of course, the Tarwar is sharpened, ready for those damned zombie rats.

Yup. It's 1941 all right. [And wait until we find the death camps.]

This whole thing reminds me of the "conversation" I had with the bride to be on Sunday. I was thumbing through the paper and came across a Dick's Sporting Goods ad. They had a nice no frills over and under in 12 or 20 ga for about 150 bucks. Without looking at her I ask, "Honey, can we afford an over and under for 149.99?"
"Ummm, what for?"
With a look of almost disbelief I look and say "Hon...bird flu."
She cocks her head and almost tries to shake the ridiculous idea out from between her ears. I could have sworn I saw a tiny puff of smoke come out and smelled burning tranny fluid as her gears visably ground to a hault. All she could stammer out was "....wh..? No!"
I almost got out, "It's for the zom...yeah, you're right."
She knew where I was going with this.

Sometimes I forget that not everyone jumps to zombies and end times at the drop of a hat. She won this round...but there will be cash at the wedding,

Jake

Bamboo, anything's possible, & some things will actually happen, to a greater or lesser degree than we feared. But most don't.
The avian flu disaster absolutely could happen, & happen this year; but not likely this year, nor as bad.

The world is not falling apart, you're just living longer, learning more, & seeing more. There have been many more, & many worse, "troubling" times in the past.

Think how the Celts felt when Caesar slaughtered them as a good career move on his way to emperor.
Think how the Romans felt when the Vandals, Goths, etc. conquered them & used their temples & libraries for stables & bars ?
Think of how all of western Europe felt when Attila & his posse rode over the hill with their neighbor's heads on their lances ?
For centuries, every church in christendom prayed, from the heart, "Deliver us from the wrath of the Northmen." (Russia is named for them ! They put the "Rus" in Russia !).
Think of how Spain & Turkey felt when they fell to Muslim invasions.
Or the Poles & Russians when the Einsatz-gruppen came to town ? (fortunately, they did not complete their atomic bomb project in time).
Or the Chinese when the Mongols dropped by ?
Can you say "Black Death" ? It left Europe looking like the American frontier, minus the natives.
There was a hell of an earthquake in Lisbon (around the 1600's ?), it killed around 100,000 or 500,000 !!! It astonished of all of Europe.
How do you think the Native Americans felt when the UFOs (unidentified floating objects) came by, abducted their relatives, & took them back to the planet Europe ? Don't even think of how they felt after subsequent visits.
Life has been far worse than you can imagine in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cambodia, etc. etc. etc.
Look at the TV commercials for starving children in the "armpits" of the world.

There are innumerable things to worry about.
Al Queda slipping in a container with a nuke on a freighter;
North Korea & Iran with nukes, germ & chemical weapons;
the Diablo nuclear reactor that California built on an earthquake fault;
the potential Cascadia quake & tsunami;
the Yellowstone mega-volcano;
or the earthquake fault worse than the San Andreas, which is just 60 miles off-shore from Boston; it last went off in the 1600's or 1700's;
a repeat of the 1930's "Dust-bowl" in our bread-basket.

Then of course, there are those killer asteroids & massive extinction events that occur every so often.

At some point, it ceases being exciting, interesting, or even possible to put a "child-proof cap" on the world & make it safe.
By all means, get some flu prophylactics, some masks, some germicide.
Maybe get some water, food, plastic & duct tape. Make hurricane/earthquake/terrorist plans/preparations.
Work out in advance what to do & how to do it. But don't let it pre-occupy you, & use up your energy, or steal your life.
After prudent preparations, put such worries aside, & "Bloom where you're planted."

I surrrre was loanly out there today blasting my orange little "duck-zombies" from the sky today. I didn't see many others out there practicing. Every round is going to count when the time comes, you have to make every last one count.

I think I need to check my powder supply. IIRC I am running low on Blue Dot, and I might as well buy a can or 2 of 2400 while I am at it.

It's pistols tomorrow!
