Just picked up this camp knife/chopper from Tobin Smith on the exchange. Thought it would make a good companion for the O1 Gossman PSK, and I want to see a couple of things; how O1 holds up as a chopper, and how the double-wrapped paracord handle works out.

Very nice blade and sheath! So far, the paracord feels real good.

Specs on the chopper:

Steel - O1
"user" finish on blade
OAL - 13 1/8"
Cutting edge length - 8"
Spine to edge at widest - 2 1/8"
Leather sheath included
Handle - Desert camo paracord

I don't normally like large knives with paracord wrap handles - but I have to admit that yours looks very good. The choice of wrap colour and double wrapping seems to have nicely avoided that tactical look!

Nice job with the para cord wrap. You'll be pleasantly surprised at what O1 is capable of in a large chopper. :D

Looks great, I am interested to know how it feels to chop w/ that paracord wrap.

Looks great as does the Gossman PSK, what did you use to get the patina on them ?

Thanks Scott, followed your tutorial on the PSK wrap. I'm thinking the O1 will do just fine.

Me to. It's double-wrapped, and I gave it a quick workout, and it felt real good. One advantage seems to be the slimness allows me to get a really good grip on it.

Well, I'd like to say the sweat dripping of my brow as I used them, but the truth is vinegar. :D

mapper, how many dips did it take? It looks like it didn't make it too dark. I've had a hard time getting a dark patina on my O1 blades with vinegar. Ferric acid is instant black.

Scott, I usually do it overnight or longer and just let it soak. I've used both apple cider and plain white vinegar. They come out darker, but it wipes off to that lighter gray you see on your PSK and Tobin's chopper.

Here's a closer look at the PSK. That's a one night soak in white vinegar.

I like the look as well, was also going for the increased rust resistance. Seems to be working so far.

I like it especially with that color cord.
