I finished this one up in mid February. It was made for (and designed by) BladeForums very own Marcus Lin aka "Flatgrinder" here on the forums. 5/16" O1 with black linen micarta scales (finished @ 150 grit) and red liner mounted on a tapered tang with 3 SS lanyard tubes. I finished her up with a frog style sheath :) To say that this thing packs a wallop would be an understatement !! This bad-boy is an exceptional chopper !!

Marcus is a pleasure to work with and has been coming up with some really great looking designs. If any one gets the opportunity to work with him he comes highly recommended

That is a SWEET chopper. Ive been mening to do a blade style like that for a while.

How'd you cut in the fuller? Endmill?

Thanks guys :D

David, (& Garrett in response to your PM) I cut the fullers with a ball end mill and polished with SC stones

Ah yes, David was a mold maker before turning into a knife maker. I love the use of the SC stones.

Knifemaking isn't the only industry where hand finishing of hardened steel is an important skill ya know. Mold makers are the cream of the crop, and David here is a 25 year veteran of the injection mold making industry.

Thanks again for the superb work. By the way, the knife's still cutting like a monster! It's like using a hatchet with a 10" blade that's fast like a machete! I also haven't needed to sharpen it yet.

If anyone's interested in David's work, I can definitely recommend the guy. His work is extremely clean (fit, finish and grinds are perfect) and it's a pleasure working with someone of such integrity and honesty.

what is the pre-form for that style of knife? do you just begin to forge the edge of the barstock with no point pre-form? thanks.

I've always loved those lopped-nose choppers and that one is a prime example of what one should look like.

That's awesome! I've always wondered if fullers milled into a full flat-grind would come out straight. Now I know.

Were the fullers milled before the blade was ground, or after?

What are SC stones?

Yes, Marcus is correct in that the fullers were milled prior to grinding the bevels.

SC = silicon carbide ;) Sorry for the confusion. See attached pic for an example of my polishing set-up. It shows a "Diprofil" reciprocating polisher and some of the attachments that are available. The power source is a foredom flex shaft. The stone you see clamped into the business end of the diprofil is a 1/8" x 1/2" 320 grit silicon carbide stone.

Although I do both forged and stock removal knives, this was a stock removal knife legato.

Thanks again guys  :)
