I have one of these. With the tapered tang and the sculpted handle, this is very nice knife and easily one of my favorites.

It's less costly to grind a knife than forge it, so, for this kind of knife, in my shop, yes, it's better.

One thing I have noticed from visiting this area of the forum often. If the maker is Phil Patton, it will be well made, and look great.

Some day, soon I hope, I will have the funds to pull the trigger on one of Phil's great knives.
