i use Obaneuf's on my sheaths and my boots and it seems to work great.

i saw someone mention that Obaneuf could be good for knives as well.

anyone use Obaneuf's on their knives? i use mineral oil on my carbon steel knives at the moment.

Obaneuf's says "Contains NO harmful silicones, petroleums, solvents, or neatsfoot. "

so i guess this would be food safe as well right?

what do you guys think? should i "Obaneuf" my knife? :)

thanks

JC

My guess, probably not. If it's meant for leather, it's probably not food safe. That, and it won't be regulated by the FDA. But your best bet is to contact the company, and see what they think. Their chemists will know the product best - don't listen to hearsay when you're considering the possibility of ingesting a product that may not necessarily be approved or intended for such use.

guess i'll stick with mineral oil for now then. the reason i brought it up is that i have two knives, one in A2 and one in 1095 and was wondering if its ok to leave em in sheath for a while. when storing at home they're in the paper sheaths that came with them but wondering if i spend something like a week in the bush how badly they'll rust.

thanks for the replies guys

I feel bad man, I have never protected my knives, carbon or stainless. I just never had problems with them.

I remember reading somwhere the oil off you nose after a days work in the woods was enough, I dont know about that though.
