Observations, The 25 Proto and the 25 Plain Jane

From the mouth of NanoOil,
"do not use Nano-Oil right away,
1- if your pivot is already firmly screwed in place, just open and close a lot of time (meaning just use it for couples days) break in.
2- if not, to speed up break in just tighten the pivot screw and do as above.
3- when ready for Nano-Oil, back off pivot screw a little so capillary action can help Nano-Oil spread and may even reach the pivot on first try.
4- open and close a few times while squeezing the handle over the pivot this will pre condition
5- when you think you have enough, LOL just assert the pivot screw to over tight this will fully condition under extreme pressure.
6- at this point you should be able to flick open, now, you just do a fine adjustment on pivot in the range of 1/32 nd of a turn
until you can flick open if that is what you have in mind,
At this point the blade should be very firm in place (no lateral movement) and yet, you can open and close smoothly.
It all will get better by the next day as observed and reported by countless knives enthusiasts.
You can also tap the knife (pivot side) on your hand, it will force some Nano-Oil towards the pivot.
Hope this helps,"

Bbq, do you use the "nano oil" instead of the crk grease?

Looks like ill have to get some of this. Do you like it?

I love nano oil, it works great on knives with teflon or plastic styled washers, such as hinderers. It's a really good oil for other applications too.
But I have never had much luck using it with pb washered knives.

For the most part, yes. I will switch it up from time to time though.

The NanoOil in 10weight is a general use oil for metal on metal applications, such as knives and guns.

Just found a thread on nano-oil. Everyone seems to like it. Looks like ill be getting some soon.

It's def worth a try, I've had some for quite a while and it lasts forever. Just had better luck with the crk stuff for my PB washered knives.

Get the 1/2 oz. I bought the 1 oz and its taking forever to even make a dent in the bottle. Hell, I still have about 95% left and Iv'e used it lot. A little goes a long ways with this stuff. BTW, the NanoOil is VERY popular in the custom flashlight world.

Great pics.
Is it just the pics or possibly my eyes?
It looks to me like the cut out to access the lock bar on the front of the knife ( non lock bar side ) is bigger on the
Proto version than on the production model?
I know that the newer versions of the umnum have a larger cut out to make accessing the lock easier than the early models but it looks like CRK went the other way on the 25.
I held the proto at Blade when Blackend and I were there wheeling and dealing ;D, we noticed that the proto's had our birthdate on the blade which made it hard not to top the cash on one, even worse for me because RC are my initials and the CRK logo is easily read as RC instead of CR; if only I would've had the play money to pick one up.
Yep, I got side tracked dreaming about the proto, my apologies! The proto is an amazing knife and the production version of Blackend's that I was messing with the other day is absolutely perfect, I can't wait to get one.

Thank you both for great threads with great pics to hold the rest of us over.

The Blade seems identical otherwise and the handle seems identical as well.

IIRC, some early writings of the new model 25 had it coming out with a 0.140" blade thickness, same as the Zaan...instead of the traditional 0.125" stock. Is it or isn't it?
Thanks.
