Obsessing over knives, carry remorse

I use what I have in my pocket: they can always be sharpened, or even fixed.
This morning: I cut up an old garbage can with my Olamic.
Just like buttah! 😁

And I’ve always been one of those people that, if I get something I really like, I get another one so when the first one wears out I’ll still have one (Let’s be fair, though, doesn’t it suck when you have something that is just perfect in every way, and when you finally wear it out, you can’t find anything remotely as good to replace it?
Amen! I just last night bought a second WC Startac for this very reason…

I’ve always been a 2 is 1 kinda guy but lately I am feeling that my new mantra will be ā€œ a pair and a spare ā€œ. I’m already there for my carry pistol and flashlight so what the hell!

I’m going to Bladeshow next month (I’m flying) and I want to ship a couple knives to a friend ahead of time since he’s driving to the show and I can receive my knives from him when we meet up. That way I don’t have to go too long without a knife on me. I’ve thought long and hard about which knives I want to take with. Big decision, I’ve literally been thinking about this for like 5 months šŸ˜‚

A situation like this is completely different from picking one or two to head out the door with. When you’re meeting up with a bunch of fellow knife guys, what do you take?

I’ve been in that situation a few times and wound up taking a good mix of trading fodder and some of my best baubles just to ā€œstunt on foolsā€ and have some cool stuff to pass around and talk about.

Good luck deciding…

I feel ya on this, last year the wife and I drove from VA to Wyoming to visit some friends and to enjoy the scenery along the way. Knowing I was going to be gone and driving thousands of miles made me think long and hard about what knife to take out west (like I was going on the Lewis and Clark expedition or something)
I finally settled on the Leatherman Wave in my suitcase and a Buck 301 stockman because I wanted multiple blades. I barely touched either of them the entire trip but it seemed like a big decision at the time :)

Not specifically that, but I can relate for sure as I’ve told myself I have to keep the user collection to what will fit in a 12 pocket knaf roll. Then it was ā€œwell obviously that means ā€˜plus one in my pocketā€™ā€ which soon became ā€œalso, it’s a good idea to have one underneath, in case the roll of 12 folders goes missing) but alas, I scored a grail and it’s time to sell a few and choosing which does feel like rationalizing which pet to keep šŸ˜‚ it’s a sickness but forcing myself to sell has been kind of a breakthrough. Once I decided to stick to the 12, it’s become easier To part with any of them and I feel less compelled to buy the next. That may also be having gotten this far along (including the fixies and safe queens)

also I use knafs fairly often at work and have been enjoying a triad carry philosophy (1 on me, 2 in the kit) 1. Insanely sharp backup for when you need the sliciest of edges (it’s been the K390 stretch or 4V Native 5 lately) 2. The big beater for most tasks (CS 4-Max Scout as an example) and 3. Always on me small n sharp (Lil native is my Lil favorite, but also the CS Tuff Lite). Indecisives Unite! Or not… or maybe later… I dunno.
