Obtaining Newly Released GECs

I have just recently found my love for traditionals after many years of carrying some form of clipped knife. I started carrying a Case Mini Trapper that I had crammed in a drawer, and it led me to purchasing a jigged bone Calf Roper and I’m in love. This run of the 93’s has shown me that not all GEC buying experience will be as pain free as my 66 purchase (which are still available on a lot of sites).
So, my question is how do most of you guys acquire these knives? I’ve seen some talk of people reserving them before they are released, but I’ve not seen that option on any of the sites of frequent. As far as just ordering them from dealers it seems they are selling out extremely fast.
Most of the ones I’ve seen on the secondary market are almost double the price of the dealers. Are some of you just biting the bullet and paying the higher prices, or are most of you getting them from dealers?
I guess I’m asking you guys to tell me your secrets. It is discouraging to see some people that have every one that is released, and I have not seen a single one for sale that wasn’t almost double the cost. So, I’m done whining now. I’m just jealous.

Having never participated in the buying frenzy I speculate that the traditional method is to sleep in the bushes near the factory, wait of the UPS guy to drive away with the boxes of new knives, jump on the back of the truck, crawl under the truck while it travels down the highway and hang there so as not to be spotted by secret security observation posts along the rout, drop to the ground when the driver parks for a break, once inside the truck stuff your cargo pants pockets as full as possible, stuff a few more in various available orifices . . . then while nonchalantly waddling down the highway call in your James Bond / MacGyver style low flying helicopter beam out.

What . . . like you couldn't think of such a simple plan your self . . . sheeeeeze.
:p
Well . . . anyway . . . that's what I would do if I ever saw one that really turned my crank. But I'm an Apple fan boy and used to doing stuff like that for the latest versions. ;)

This isn't the place for threads about the buying process. You might should ask that it be moved to the proper place before you get your wrist slapped. Just sayin'

Haha. I’m only about 45 minutes from one of the big dealers so this is an option.

Been wondering the same thing. Did manage to snag a couple nice fish knives from their gift shop (they ship).

You should be able to get a list of GEC dealers on GEC's website.

Check them all, and you should be able to learn about their early reserve systems (if they participate).

Not every dealer gets every run (some are special orders and some are made for specific dealers, etc).

As much as the buying frenzies hurts me, when I want a knife..... I'm glad that GEC is making great knives for me....and my kids....

I will continue to support them, and refer others to their knives, even if it means more competition to get knives I want.... because I want GEC to be prosperous, and be able to keep making great knives!!

I hope that Queen is able to be resurrected and start making high quality cutlery again!!

Go on the great eastern cutlery page go to distributors and dealers, it’s on the bottom right of their home page, go to those sites and get on a few email lists, at least some of them will email you when they get something new in.

I got mine used at a gun show. It came from a deceased collector whose wife knew the dealer I bought from. I've seen others at gun and knife shows selling new and used knives.

To get a new release from a dealer you often have to put up with the "we will post on Monday at 4pm" feeding frenzy. And too often that claim is made without knowing exactly how much the retail price will be or which scales will be available. The trick is to be on their mailing list and/or Facebook page, watch for announcements, be online at a few minutes before the hour, keep hitting refresh until you see a knife posted, and frantically put it into your cart, and try to complete the sale without even deliberating on whether you really want it or whether the price is justified. Those who hesitate go without.

Frankly I got sick of participating in such circuses. Life is too short. I'll leave those knifes to others who want them more badly than I do.

It sure takes the fun out of it. You can usually pick them up on the exchange after the scramble, but you end up paying for shipping twice at best. At worst, you might end up paying out the nose. That's not for me.
