I believe someone said they were going to be produced. Anyone know what materials? FRN? G-10? BG-42? ATS-34?

That would be great! I knew the prototypes had G-10 and BG-42, but thought Spyderco was leaning towards FRN and ATS-34 for the production models. Good news indeed.

I believe that Tim Wegner wants it produced just like the prototype. I got mine this week...one of a few "GREEN" Ocelots. I got #18 of the prototypes. I ordered mine at the BladeShow this summer. I don't know if I can afford it, but I got it anyway because it is such a great knife and I was afraid it wouldn't be produced. This is by far, my favorite design of any folding knife.

Here's a picture of it:

Where did you get that Fob thingy? That is cool. I should have my prototype, #16 of course, next week.

Wow, I'd forgotten about this one, it looks great. Plus it's got one of my favorite blade steels! Drool...

Mine is green as well! I can't wait for it to get here.

I also cant wait for the production version. #16 is going in the case next to my custom Wegner designs.

At this time, production is planned for FRN. We still haven't decided on the Steel. We have CPM-440V, BG-42 and VG-10 on hand.

Since Tim designed the knife for hunting small game, we'll use a high edge retention steel.

(Actually, our General Manager, Jeff is a big hunter also and much of the Ocelot design was his influence).

Tim had mentioned that he would like to see a high end version as well, but cost and mfg capacity have a big effect on that.

FRN is OK but G-10 rocks.

I guess at the higher price point the sales numbers go down so making a high-end model also would push costs. I know you are always balancing costs, sales numbers, profits, etc,

You and Spyderco have taken more chances than most would in producing higher end and/or small demand knives for the few that know the difference.

I thank you for that.

Will the FRN version likely have the pugs molded into it?

As far as steels go, I would like to see BG-42 or VG-10 before 440-V. Of course I am going to buy one no matter what configuration you come up with.

Mr. Glesser,

CPM-440V, BG-42 or VG-10 will be just fine, I'm buyin' one regardless just as soon as my dealer gets one in stock (that and the Perrin Bowie ;o).

Best regards,

Laurence

wow I guess i'm pretty let down about the FRN. the Ocelot with G10 would have been my next purchase I was pretty excited about getting one. I prefer cpm 440v but any steel really works for me. I just can't buy a knife with a FRN handle. I only get to buy so many knives a year so I buy the ones made with my favorite materials. Oh well the ocelot comes off of my "to get " list and the Lum Chinese goes back to #1 Dam those spydies if they don't get me with one model they get me with another. Talk about a no lose situation.:) oh yeah :barf: FRN

yep, too bad they are not doing the two different versions- one high end for us snobs, and one for everyone else:D

Oh, and please please please use G10 not FRN!!!

This is a great design, now use materials that do it justice.

How about two versions?

A G10/BG42 version, and an FRN/VG10 version? Priced at about $90 and $50 respectively? I can promise you that Spyderco wouldn't be able to make enough of them...

I'm not too concerned about the blade steel, but G10 is worth the money. G-10 and VG-10 or Ats-34 would be amazing. especially if reasonably priced...and without those pawprints (sorry, I just can't like them)
