We got started with contests pretty quick. The fire contest was up first. It was pretty fun - lots of times when you thought one person had it and then it would change. very good competition. It was a one "stick" fire contest, with one blade and one ferro rod, nothing else. Winner got a 16.

Dang, wish I would have had the dough to come back up to Oregon for that. Hopefully next year.

Nice job on the pics, Captain. Looks like it was a great time!

That looks like a good time.
Nice spot.
Oh hell yes!

Figure 4 I made up around the non fire pit.

The fire contest was a "1 stick fire", each person gets to use a Knife or cutting tool of their choosing and a ferro rod, They were allowed to choose a chunk of wood and they had to process it down to the right sized pieces to get a fire going which was big enough to melt through the 550 cord tied approx. 12" above the ground.
Johnny1280, batoning his way through that chunk of 4x4.

That looks like fun. Super nice spot.
What were the temps like?

I'll make it out there one day if y'all keep making it look like that much fun.

Let me preface this post by saying what an absolutely great time I had with a terrific group of people! I'll be a permanent fixture at BeckerWest from here on out. Everyone was very welcoming and shortly after introductions were made I felt like I had known everyone for years.
A big thanks to Oregon'Faler, Captain Airyca, and Ethan for making this gathering possible. I took my brother Jason and he had a great time too!
It was great getting to meet Bill Siegle and his son Billy. Wow, Bill sure makes some great blades.
The contests were alot of fun, and challenging too! I honestly didn't think chopping through a 4x4 would be such a physical challenge. lol. I had never thrown hawks before and I did really good in the competion. I actually placed second! The shooting challenge was fun although I didn't do as good as I thought I would. Jason did good shooting so he was proud. I probably enjoyed the fire starting contest the best. I really liked the whole concept of the "one stick" fire. I was the first to get flame, but I didn't do a good enough job on prepping shavings and curls. I got too excited and kept starting a fire with not enough tinder. Live and learn!
Here's a few pics. Didn't take too many. I was to buisy having fun!

Just hanging out. L to R Jason, Cameron, Capt. Airyca, Erock, Oregon'Faler, Bill Siegle, Abrasion.

on the fire competetion did anyone try shaving off some wood shavings and starting there fire on the wood chunk standing vertically so the fire starts up high by the rope?

if the wood chunk was more than 12" long i would of cut a v into so the middle of the v is an inch or 2 below the paracord, filled the v with wood shavings and voila!

Unless this was against the rules.....

WOW !!! Great pics, great vids, great food & BACON, great time & great friends !!! Does it get any better than that ?
