Odd pricing

I noticed something odd (or at least odd to a newbie). Sometimes the prices on villager DOTD items is more than the price quoted for the same item on the H.I. web store. For example a DOTD villager Tarwar was $20 more than the price of a completely finnished (mirror polished) Tarwar on the H.I. site. In addition the shipping was included, making the DOTD in essence $40 more expensive. This seems odd to me, but like I said I'm new here. Does anyone have a guess as to why a villager, requiring less work to finish, would cost more?

The villager finish is highly sought after by hardcore sharks (generally speaking of course) because they don't turn up often. Also, Yangdu has to look at each of these one off pieces based on material cost, level of craftsmanship, and other aspects.

Also, the store web site probably needs to be adjusted for inflation.

Just keep in mind that if Yangdu believes that a particular piece demands a premium...it is certainly more than worth it:)

This has pretty much been covered before the website is in the process of being updated but has run into some problems, postage is no longer included and if you want a correct price you need to contact Yangdu. Since all HI products are hand made the materials and artistry differ from item to item so to give a one price fits all is nearly impossible...bottum line the prices on DOTD are correct if you want to order something contact Yangdu directly..

Aye, everything from handle materials to blade size come into play. Some of these DOTDs are HUGE and take alot more stock material, as well. I don't believe that website has been updated recently...

The website was updated by Auntie a couple months ago.
All pricing is current and correct.

The Villager Tarwar I offered for sale on the blade forum for $240 is a great price. In order to remain in business I had to charged $20 for shipping and halding cost. Thank you

Thankyou for the information. I was hoping that the higher price on the Tarwar I snagged was because it was better in some way ( more sought after finish, better built quality, etc. ). From what you say, that is the case.

I certainly did not mean to imply that the prices were to high (if anything they are too low - making me want to add a few dollars to the purchase for the Kami Medical Fund). I also did not mean to imply that there was any lack of integrity on Yangdu's part. I humbly appologise if my post sounded that way.

I would be nuts to do that anyway. It's obvious how much love everyone has for Yangdu and all those same people have multiple big sharp scary knives ;)
