Odd question about my 940-1501

Send it back. I can tell it will bother you over time if you don't. Nothing wrong with that. The slow eating / nagging should have will nit pick over time if you don't.

+1

I've sent back knives before for manufacturer QC issues.. Most of the time it was due to poor, asymmetrical swedge grinds on models with deep swedges.. An exchange was always warranted because I knew it would bother me over time.. Not to mention the fact that the model was not advertised that way.

I'd sent it back for exchange.. You'll be more pleased in the long run.

That's defective if ever so slightly. It'd bother me over time so send it back to dealer/manufacturer for a good one.

I love the 940 line and just inspected my never-carried KW-exclusive 940-1501. It's a pretty perfect specimen and my only one with that nice G-10. Definitely, a keeper.

I did actually send it back for a refund and recently took delivery on the replacement, which I'm happy with. Interestingly, the new one has a couple of differences. The blue on the scales is not as noticeable as the first one. It just doesn't "pop" like the blue did against the black on the defective one. From most angles it appears to be a black g10 knife with a slight blue highlight. The other was much brighter.

Also, the scales seem a lot more smooth and almost slippery when compared to my first one.

But overall, I'm happy I got the refund. The issue with the blade would have bothered me much worse than the issues with the color and the slipperiness. If anything, what I would do in the future is to just send it to Benchmade. Then I could have gotten just the blade replaced and kept what I liked about the other knife. Of course, I really didn't know there would be differences like that in the color and scales. Thanks for everyone's help and advice. I'm definitely satisfied with the outcome

The differences between the G-10 models are a given as evidenced by KW's product description: "Due to the layering of the 2 colors G10 and when machined, Each knife could be slightly different in color on the handle, One may have a little more blue or a little more black in the handle. We will not be able to go through and pick these out for preferred handles."

It's actually kind of cool that they're all different. And I'm glad I got a new one. I've never been one to buy duplicates of knives but I'm already looking for my next 940.

940 is a classic. I still have my original 940SBK with 154CM steel from August 2005! Still works great!
