Odds, ends, and Factory 3rds sale.
Over the next few days I will be listing some blades that are cosmetic flaws, prototypes, or just odds and ends blanks I have laying around the shop that I didn’t intend to finish but I think people will still enjoy
First up are the Cosmetic blems.. They are all sharpened and ready for use.
I’m calling these blades Factory 3rds. They have a major, and I mean major cosmetic flaw. In addition to this, I have made no effort to otherwise perfect the blades. They have rough finishes and are ugly, BUT they will still perform and cut well.
First up is a Factory 3rd Fjord hiker in Z wear PM Ht to 61 with orange terotuf. I was experimenting with a new full height convex grind and ground the blade too high on the flat platen before switching to the convex. As a result, the area near the plunges is flat while the rest of the bevel is convex. I also couldn’t get a belt in their to smooth out the plunges so they have some issues. Finish was done with a scotchbite belt then thrown in the tumbler. Its ugly but will perform.
The scales collected some grime from the tumbler and I haven’t been able to clean them. Maybe some solvent will help get the grime out.
$ 115 shipped.
Next up is a Factory 3rd Hacksaw in CPM 3V HT to 61 with black terotuf scales. This one has a jacked up plunge. I can’t believe how bad the plunge is. Must have been drunk.
The blade was hit with the scotchbrite belt and then thrown in the tumbler. It has an ugly uneven finish but is finished at 280 grit and won’t rust or cause any issues.
This model is an amazing slicer and I think you will be blown away by how well it performs.
$115 Shipped
The final Factory 3rd for today is a Fell Beast in 52100 with a spring tempered spine and 58RC edge.
This one has two issues. 1, the blade has some pretty ugly surface imperfections on the flats that can be seen in the photo. 2. The handle is crudely finished and the tang is a hair proud. There is no glue under the scales. This one is completely held on by the flared tubes. Its not an issue but you may want to keep the scales and the tang oiled to prevent rust.
$125 shipped
Next I have an odds and ends blade.
This is an unfinished utility hawk made from 52100 with spring tempered body and 58RC bit and poll. It is ground and sharpened but does not have scales. It will make a great project if you want to make some scales or it can be used with a cord wrap as an ultra lightweight trail hawk. I would not suggest doing serious prying with this blank unless you add scales. The tang was designed to be used with 3/8th thick scales that would give it strength. I’ve tested this model to destruction and you probably wouldn’t be able to break the tang unless you really tried but still something to keep in mind. Without scales, I’d stick to light to medium prying only.
I have several of these available with slightly different grinds.
$65 Shipped
