Its such a well designed/made knife, but 8cr13mov is one steel I'm not too impressed with. Make it VG10 and jack up the price a little. Hell, make it LC200N and see how long it stays in stock!

That's the Sprig or the Waterway, isn't it?

I like the design. Like others though, I don't care for the steel. While 8Cr13Mov was a welcome upgrade to stuff like AUS-6 back in the day, we have much better budget steels today. Chinese-made budget knives are now commonly available in 9Cr18Mov, 14C28N, and D2. All of those tend to offer much better edge retention and at least the first two are significantly more stainless.

Sal has confirmed that Spyderco is exploring alternatives to 8Cr13Mov as their go-to Chinese budget steel. He mentioned that 9Cr18Mov is a possibility. That would be wonderful. Even with an average heat treatment from manufacturers like Sanrenmu, 9Cr18Mov can offer a substantial increase in overall performance. That kind of upgrade across the board would take a whole lot of models that I've previously ignored and put them into serious consideration for me.
