From my local pusher I bought for less than 35 U$ two Buck Odyssey one with plain edge and the second with a combo blade.
The knives are brand new in 420hc steel, marked BUCK USA.

What I have to know about this knife ?

Many thanks
Francesco

you got a great knife.

Alot of people here live and die with the 110, but the 181/186 oddessy was as good a knife as buck ever made for EDC> I like the plain edge better, but that is my two cents.

carry it for a while and you will find it nearly perfect for a every day use knife

it looks a little bit rugged as finish, the blades are not mirror or satin finished but it seems a great knife for construction .
Between blades and liners I noticed two gasket in Copper and my fear is that Copper makes oxide in few time.
The edge is not so sharpened like my 119 and this is quite strange .
Both the Odyssey are marked BUCK 186 USA with the symbol of year of production 2005.
The plain edge is marked with bold fonts the other not why this difference???

Thanks again

I sure agree that the Odyssey is a great edc knife. I wish it was still in production. I would not worry about those washers. They are bronze and I have yet to get one back with a problem caused by corrosion. Make sure you keep it clean, like with all knives of course.
I am not sure about the stamp question. Could you possible email me pictures of the two?
By the way, Welcome to the forums! :)

Hi Joe,

here two pics taken with my webcam, I am sorry they are very poor ...
My digicam was without batteries :-( !!

As you can see the stamp is more evident in the plain blade (Down) than in the partially serrated (Up)

The blades look like they are used but the knives are brand new..out of the box yesterday for the first time..

I bought two knives for 34 U$ including shipping on e-bay from my local pusher (yes he's italian )
Also for the 119 I bought both the version so now I have 4 Bucks :-P

A nice upgrade to the Odyssey is to get in touch with STR and have him make you one of the LowRide clips.... He's got a pic of mine that he made somewhere....

Do you have a verniers or a micrometer??? The blade with the deeper stamp may be a bit thicker than the other...and the stamp ram is set to a fixed height above the anvil, so it strikes deeper...

...Maybe...

One of the most overlooked product from Buck. IMHO, it is probably one of the better designed contemporary EDC folders from the company. Unfortunately, everyone was far too busy with Benchmades and Spydecos then. Also, it came a little late into the game to make much of an impression. The best version was one made of ATS34 with g10 scales, it also had a swedge/false edge on the blade tip. You find that, dude - you stuck gold.

I keep telling Joe to bring that one back,,,,,I love the odyssey and have carried one for close to 7 years pretty much exclusively as the mandatory edc, others may ride along, but the 181 FL sits there....lays in your pocket flat, comes out fast, very very sturdy construction. Best EDC knife Buck has made. Lots of people love 110's, as do I, but for pocket carry that works from jeans to suit pants, the 181/186 takes the cake.

PS always looking for more plain edged ats 34 odyssey's. Anybody want to trade for serrated ats 34, i have those, but want plain edged.

I have to agree, Great knife. I have had one in my rotation for at least 3 years. The quality is comparable to any Comercial brand on the market. The 110 was always to heavey for me, this one is nice for a bigger EDC.

Just cruisin' through Gander Mountain on lunch today and came across a 181FX w/ATS-34 blade for $20. Can't wait to get the package open.

Wow! Sounds like I need to stop by Gander Mountain. My local K-Mart has the Odyssey in 420HC for $28 which I thought was a bit high. But $20 for ATS-34 is a bargain!

Here the picture of my little collection in the low right corner My #1 and #2 bougth when I was a child (the car and the fixed blade with the plastic horn) ..
