Of all the knives...

I agree with the functional art bit.... However, most folks don't understand it. They have a hard time accepting the fact that one would EDC a small folder, imagine a fixed blade...... I've gotten strange looks from fellow hikers because I wear a fixed blade, and I'm not talking large knife. That being said, it's easy to figure that people wouldn't feel comfortable with someone EDCing a fixed blade in a office setting.

Don't get me wrong..... I'm on your side. I use a small pocket knife at work ( spyderco Delica or cold steel 3.5 inch voyager). I cut paper, remove staples, use it as an improvised screwdriver, open packages, cut fruit and such and some coworkers just don't get it. They accept it ..... But barely.

Most cities here have got by laws concerning knife carry. You can't do it without "reasonable justification". Self defense is not accepted justification. I've never carried for self defense.

This lack of clear definition leaves it to the officer to decide wether he fines you. About a 100$ fine and your knife gets seized. You have to go pick it up at the inbound.

All this leads the people who are scared of us, knife lovers, to feel justified to fear us. If there are rules against it, must mean that it is wrong. Thus we are "criminals".... Sad.

I can completely understand your point, NF; and a good one it is. It all comes down to discretion and tact as far as carry goes where I'm at though. Same thing with my lockpicks; as long as I'm not engaging in criminal activity, I'm cool to have them. One just has to remain within the bounds of the law to avoid significant trouble. So, what knives do you guys and gals have that are reasonable for you but unreasonable for the general non-knife population? Do you still carry them; but, with more discretion?

Well being that I make them I tend to carry knives all of the time. I have a few friends that question my need to carry such a large knife. Funny thing is that the knife they always ask that question about is Active Duty. I usually tell them to give me a second and I walk back to the truck and grab my pack that is always with me. Then they really freak out as I pull out my KDSH and Basic 11. I find it strange that I get more questions about my knives then I do my gun. Such a strange society we live in.

Strange indeed!.... I would understand it more here, where gun carrying is illegal. I find it illogical that you can carry a gun yet could get in trouble for carrying a knife!

Trust me there are a lot of strange laws here. I can legally carry a gun but can not carry a knife over 3" long. Strange indeed. LOL

Very true Josh, Ohio laws are just plain stupid. I have never once been questioned about the Glock 19 on my side but I had my Spyderco Caly 3.5 taken because "its over the legal limit". Keep in mind I was using it as a work tool when I had it taken.

Ohio sucks I really need to get back to Texas!!!

I think people have just become accustomed to people carrying a gun anymore since there is such a large movement in favor of firearms. I always have my Rat Trap on me and my leaner Meaner in the truck. Whenever I pull my Rat Trap out of my pocket or my LM out of the glove box to use it for something, I am always asked if I absolutely need a knife that big. My answer? Well, yeah! Why else would I carry it?
