Of Contests and Giveaways.............

Nah ... I disagree

Every contest should be as easy as an old Cheech and Chong routine ...

Ya know ... "OK Bob, what is your name ? Starts with a B, ends with a B, O in the middle Bob " :D :D J/K

Seriously though - it's amazing how many GAW 's there are here lately.

NEVER complain about free stuff. Don't like it, don't play.

I feel you skystorm, I think there has been a lot of complaining about different things in the forum over the past month or so, it's kind of a turn off for me.

Ive been checking the forum less because I don't like coming here to read complaining about this and that, derailed threads...etc. I hope it stops and the forum returns to its polite small town feel.

Agreed. I will not be hosting any random number drawings, I don't see how that increases participation and discussion in the forum.

Who said a contest has to increase participation. I for one give stuff away because I enjoy making someones day. I've done giveaways with strings attached and found that they don't give me any more joy then just giving something to someone randomly. No "Beckerheads only" or "jump through hoop A, B, and C." That being said the person giving stuff away should do what they like. No complaints here and I'm excluded from 99% of the giveaways in this forum by simply not being in the club. Meh...

There are a lot of "open to everyone" contests going on, like mine for example, all you need is some posts in this forum, a BK and some snarky/epic quotes.

Oh I'm not complaining. Being a minimalist I don't actually want the stuff being given away though I do appreciate the generosity behind it. Just expressing a different opinion on how I have done giveaways. And thanks for the offer but I don't have a Becker knife either which disqulaifies me from your contest too. :D

How about this? "Treat others how you yourself want to be treated."

Don't bitch about how someone does a contest. If you are snarking someone, make it clear with a "j/k" somewhere in there. If someone has a chip on their shoulder, take it to PM and work it out. I've noticed a few things here and there around here recently that point to some tense feelings for one reason or another. This is still the best, nicest home on the web...one reason I spend so much time here. Just be cool, and this place will be cool.

if someone has a contest signup thread, you either take a silent pass, or you signup, and play. that's about it. if there's a discussion thread, try to stay on topic of the contest. ask good questions, if something is not clear. joking around and derailing? depends on the nature of that discussion, one supposes, but making it the snark++ thread? probably best left to offtopic/snark areas.

cleanups will occur as needed, without warning, or notice. if someone offends enough, there will be notice - but not in the thread. we'd like to keep those tidy. eventually, perhaps infractions to get your attention though we (i) would like to avoid those as your mellow mellow laid back mod has other things to do.

people have been really good about not posting linkies to things, but other rules (base forum rules, not even our local customs) are being flaunted. comes and goes. hopefully, they go without much more work :)

i wish the BF subscription icons had not been disabled. makes modding a lot harder, so more things are slipping through (have i read this thread? caught up on it? subscribed to it?)... some other things could make it easier too ;) like not having a job. oiy :)

but we'll notice. eventually.

play nice, it's Ethan's House :)

I don't usually hang out with people who complain about free stuff or how something they want is too hard to bother getting. Lots of self policing lately, not a bad thing IMO. Shouldn't all be on the mods, we outnumber them greatly and all it takes is a general turn of the tide in attitude for it to get stuck that way. Thanks to all of the members who have been here a long time (or not that long) and may not be mods but still take the well being of this forum as partly their own responsibility.

If anyone has ever felt I was negative towards their GAW (Don't think so, but you never know) I promise I was being sarcastic and maybe not clear enough about it. PM me if necessary.
