% of power loss with belt drive

I was wondering what % of power was lost between a direct drive and belt drive.

One of my grinders is the Coote and I have it with a VFD and belt drive it is a small 1 hp three phase and I know I lost a ton of power compared to when I had it on the step pullys. My next question would be is there a difference between one brand of VFD to another. I was thinking of getting the nice KB with reverse and was also hoping in doing so it may have a way to extract more power from my current set up. The drive I have now is a Teco I think thats the brand.

My idea was to make my Coote a direct drive which I think I can do and add the KB VFD and get it with the reverse feature. The Coote I have I added the disc to it and I would like to use that to it's full potential with the reverse.

So if anyone knows what or if I will gain anything by doing this I'm all ears. Last resort will be just to buy a bigger motor. But if I get a bigger motor I need the bigger KB drive and the cost of the two are just out of reach right now.

Assuming the VFD you are using isn't just NFG...

If you read page 12 of this kbac27d manual

http://www.kbelectronics.com/manuals/kbac_manual.pdf

you will see the torque curve graph.

Standard 3 phase motors lose torque at lower speed and inverter duty motors have constant torque through out the entire speed range.

It's the motor you should change to max it out, but they are more expensive and rare as used items.

bumping up to higher HP is probably the simplest way to go.

Or on your pulley / vfd combo setup change pulleys or drive wheels smaller to that the motor is running faster, but you keep higher torque.

I have a grinder for hogging. I'm not trying to get this set up to be that. Im just trying to increase what I already have maybe 20%

Im curious how much power is lost trough the use of pullys VS direct drive

And was also wondering if a higher quality VFD will extract a little more power than the cheaper quality one I already have on the machine. I have played around with the settings on the one I have it didn't do much good.

Thanks 12345678910 on the link. I have played around with the pullys aready. I guess I'm just going to have to save up for a new setup to get what I'm looking for.
