After finishing 2nd in my fantasy football league this year, I have earned the opportunity to upgrade my grinder:) To give a little background, I started with a 1" x 30" http://www.harborfreight.com/1-in-x-30-in-belt-sander-60543.html which I really did like and made a lot of great knives on despite it being small and cheap. After a few years, I "upgraded" to the Grizzly http://www.grizzly.com/products/Knife-Belt-Sander-Buffer/G1015 but despite years of trying, I have never really liked this grinder. My knives never has the nice finished look that I'm able to get with the 1x30 which I attribute to some problem with the angle on Grizzly. Not quite sure but I'm looking to make a change.
Yes, in a perfect world I would like to buy a KMG or a Bader 2" x 72" with 2 HP motor but I'm trying to get this done for around a $1000. I really don't want to go down the road of building my own which seems to be suggested a lot. I think I could do it eventually but seems like a distraction from actually making knives. The fact this is so commonly suggested makes me wonder if I'm missing something here.....Here is the off brand option that I found on amazon that looks a little too good to be true https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LWBWVQ1/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=24MNWGJJMETVL&coliid=I1MJ0RZZB5IBXA&psc=1 has anyone had any experience with off brand grinders or by some chance this one in particular? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated

The vendor names use Happybuy and Happibuy interchangeably

Throws up Chinese red flags to me.
Expensive for what you get.

I'd go diy ERRF or whatever the kit brand names are

I got the Oregon Blade Maker, eBay VFD, and iron horse motor. Came in around $750. Couldn't be happier! Use the extra cash left over to get a 10" contact wheel and you'll be set!

What part of the world are you in? USA? That would help provide more info to help.

Here's the same iron horse motor for a tad better price at $166 shipped. I doubt you'll need a youtube video to put it all together when you get it as it's pretty straight forward. Wiring in the VFD drive you'll get plenty of help from the knowledgeable folk here.

The VFD depending on how much you wish to spend. The best top of line KBAC-24D VFD is going to be the usual NEMA 4X unit that will run... $300 to $400. You can also use a NEMA 1 enclosure Chinese VFD as many of us do that runs around $110 shipped.

This one will need either a closed box or filters placed over the air inlets to prevent metal dust from getting inside.

There's a link in one of the threads here to Aliexpress that has all sizes of contact wheels $100 and less shipped. Best price by far, but there are other options around. I thought Oregon Blade Maker had a 10" wheel at good price, but don't see it in his store.

Ameribrade!! They have contact wheels for much cheaper than Beaumont and run true. Their grinder itself is pure elegant simplicity.

Stock grinder is $695 without a motor add $100-150 for a single phase or $400 for 3 phase motor and vfd and your sitting pretty

Sorry sixth_sense, didn't check this thread for a bit. Ken helped me get all set up on the VFD when I got mine so if you go this route I'll pay it forward and give you a hand. It was pretty easy as long as you have just a little knowledge.
