What I propose here, is a thread to post pics of knives that came "off the wall" (borrowing LT's expression), from the now defunct Schrade factory. Since that collection will never be whole again, maybe this thread can let us share the knives from that one source. I'm sure a lot of people have purchased some of those knives, as I have.
My take is: as that collection was growing, some used knives were "refurbished" i.e; cleaned/repaired whatever, to fill in gaps that existed. Hopefully pieces of that story will be posted here. Maybe a little discussion is in order before we actually start posting pics. Since I'm a relative newbie here, maybe I've missed something that you all can fill me in on. Larry's site is an alternative if he was interested to take on an "off the wall" corner (Larry?); but it may be too much work to do it that way. Please comment and don't hold back! (I know you won't:D )

Its a great idea,
I have LT's pictures of the wall before it was taken down + some up close pictures yet to be published. I'd love to see what other people have recovered on the open market.
I have no problem creating a wall place.

Here are a couple of the Off The Wall (OTW) pics I've forwarded to lrv. Most of these have certificates from SMKW or other good provenance.
Please send him yours too! I'll look forward to seeing them on Larry's site!

This didn't come off the wall, but I personally think it's off the wall (as in odd). I picked it up at a flea market. It is a single blade improved muskrat, file work down the liners and the backspring. I have posted it here before, and most agree that it was probably a lunch box knife. It is not perfect, nor was it perfect when they put it together, you can see some uneveness in the filework and file scrapes along the spine, This is my favorite knife in my collection.

P.S I forget, did we determine whether the handles were cell or not?

Looks like half a muskrat! I have an old Case knife that is likely half-a-knife. I'll see if I can dig it up. But we should put these in their own thread. M-M, why don't you start it with your knife, since it's a Schrade, and see how many "lunchbox", or "strange" knives there are out there? Then this thread will remain for wall knives!

Here's a barlow, and some one blade jacks, that used to grace the wall at Schrade.

I was thinking that after I received this knife that it was a protype that never was released, or an employee trying a few things out, possibly it may have been of the wall also. Anyone know?

Thanks

Hey Rusty, nice un-rusty knife! I can't wait to hear what our esteemed historians have to say about it!!

Thanks waynorth! to put some size against it, as there are no model number
markings, it is the same frame as the 126OT model.

This is a BB125 and was produced with the fancy fixed blade BB166. I have been looking for one of these folders for a while. Great picture too.
Thanks for sharing.
Larry

What time frame did the "BB"s come from Larry?

1969. I just missed out on a beautiful 166. Think it's going to bother me for the next five years.

Larry / Eric, Please take a look at e-bay item, 300009741489 is this the 166 that has been made reference to, the pictures are small and I cannot make out the tang stamp.

thanks

Thanks codger for the reply, seems like that model can command a nice price these days.

From: Henry B. Baer May 7, 1968

#166 - As described above, the blade to be etched with the fascimile signature of W. F. Cody in quotations "Buffalo Bill." We will have to buy an emblem approximately the size of a dime to be inserted near the base of the handle. Sample will be enroute to you at the time of this memo.......

The first 500 were indeed made in 1969, all serialized. #1-10 to the "21 Club" in NYC., #21 to Henry Baer via IKAC New York, NY., Balance of first 100 sets to Buffalo Bill Historical Society in Cody WY. These were sets including the BB125s, also numbered. The first 500 were serialized. Some early numbers may be found with a "TR suffix indicating they were sent to the Trustees of the W.F. Cody Museum. I also see notations of changes from walnut handles to African Rosewood.

Rusty, Irv,
Wow, I saw one go for about $165 three weeks ago. Guess they're starting to come out of the woodwork. Seems like an awfully high starting bid though. Bob Tice has a couple on his website (bobticeknives.com). Go to the collectables section, then to Schrade. They're actually Schrade Walden stamped. These are sold but they happen to be the two wood types. The sheathes were also different shades to match the handles.
