I hope he uses it a lot - since knives are almost never used it combat. That way, stuff like paracord, MRE'S, carton strapping, webbing, and the like can give their all to the cause.
Of course, if he needs to chisel a sniper hole in concrete or adobe, it should work, too.
It's a 440c blade, about 8" overall if I remember right. It's not my metalwork though. My work/family schedule and a set of neighbors that don't appreciate loud noises at midnight dampen my metal grinding ability a bit. The scales are some of my micarta though. I call it digital camo, even though it's not. Just the closest description I could think of.
He was very happy with it. He spent a couple hours in my office afterwards talking about making them, good chance he'll take it up when he gets back. I asked he send a couple pics with it once he's back in the sandbox.
