OFF TOPIC DISCUSSION

I like the forum the way it is. There are some great guys on here and I like the way the conversations naturally drift to related things after the original topic gets discussed. It is more like real conversation. This is by far my favorite place to hang out on this forum, even though I know nuts about Buck knives compared to some of these guys on here.

I think that the Buck forum has been going great and don't mind it drifting a bit. It would be a bit sterile if we didn't let a bit of our lives into it or give more information on something that has been discussed.
It makes us more aware of who everyone is instead of someone that just owns a few Buck knives. The drifting has in my opinion been minimal and almost always goes back to Buck knives.

I agree with this. Enough drift that we get to know each other. Suppose someone posts, "How old is this Buck 110?" and someone answers, "1980." Somebody else posts a short reminiscence about a knife that they had in 1980, or a girlfriend, or the 1980 presidential election. Fair enough. But a long story about how you got the knife, lost the girl and voted for Reagan is bad drift. A posting of a nearly identical Buck 110 to the one originally shown, but then explaining, "This change occurred in 1982" is a great, related, post. But if your knife is a Buck 110 from 1998 and you just want to show it off then start a new thread

Nobody should be whining about 300Bucks. He does an excellent job.

As far as thread drift goes........sometimes we stumble onto good stuff while drifting.

It's called serendipity. Just don't take a thread in a negative and toxic direction. Think before adding your........contribution.

Make sure it actually IS a contribution and not a subtraction.

So relax.

I said I wasn't going to say anymore on this subject, so I won't.

Ok, It looks like we don't want tighter control in the off topic issue. Here is what I was told on questioning a long time Super Mod who I respect. "I let a little off topic discussion, especially when it comes hunting, fishing and camping. In your case I would not allow a post about another companies knife being better. I would not allow off topic talk to go more than four or five posts." I intend to use this statement as a guide, as I hope all of you will. If you really need to say something or show photos other than a current threads subject or one heavily related to it, please use the Anvil Shed forum at the top of the home page to start your own thread there. Enough votes have been cast I will lock the thread and we can let it drift away and if anyone wishes further comment please PM me.

Last statement also. I consider Sass a quality member in good standing. I would hope that all of you will kick my shin's a little when I make a mistake as a moderator. 300
