The pocket dump thread has got me buying flashlights like crazy. Thanks guys! I need another hobby to eat my money like I need an STD!

So, my father is turning 86 later this week. He is still sharp as they come and, like all real men, loves flashlights. The only issue is that his hands are somewhat weak and he has trouble pushing little buttons (like those on the Olight s1) or twisting small caps. I would really like to get him a cool mid-sized flashlight as a b0day present, and would appreciate any input on lights you think he might like. While I don't want to spend thousands, I am not budget shopping here.

Thanks!

Olight S2? The side switch is not large, but it is pretty easy to use. (If it doesn't work for him, you'll like it!) The copper version has some heft, which I like.
Also consider the Lumintop Prince. It's a tail switch; but not a stiff one. The Prince is a little larger than the S2. I pocket mine, but it comes with a decent holster.

(I'll get a picture up later)

Lumintop Prince. It's a very handsome light with plenty power and the tail clicky is super soft and easy.

I don't know. All mine seem to have either tail clickies or little o light style switches on the barrell. That Lumentop Prince from the pocket dump thread has a tail clickie that I can turnon using a knuckle though...

I have a few Surefire lights and are nice. However my favorite is one I bought from Lowes. It has a sliding front that adjust the beam from wide to narrow. Just a nicely machined light.

All my Surefires have a "twist" operation to lock it on. You can twist the the dial back in some and have a push button capability for temporary use.

You can see the large push button here

Surefire 6PX Pro...

tailcap button can be used for momentary or click for constant on, 15/320 lumens and they can be had for around $60 from Amazon and other sellers. my brother and i got a similar light for my dad who is in his 80s and he loves it.

I like my EagleTac D25C, they probably have bigger flashlights too since the D25C has only 1 CR123. The button on the tail-cap is easy to push and the light is impressively bright and has a great pocketclip. Would highly recommend.

I would suggest the Zebralight 63.
You will have so much more battery reserve compared to 123 batteries.
Great user interface too.

Size, brightness? I am partial to Fenix lights

The pd35 from Fenix is a cool light if you think he will do good with a tail switch. It does have a side button for cycling through brightness settings. I keep one in the nightstand. The upwards to 1000 lumens does nicely lighting up the woods out back, and the less bright settings do well for normal stuff. Not their smallest light but pocketable. The pd32 is very slightly smaller and functions but with less lumens. Both around $50 - 75

My advice, buy a twist cap and a tail switch you like for yourself if you don't have any already and let him try them out. That will give you a better idea what control he has an easier time operating plus you get some new lights

Busy crazy day, so I will make this brief until later. Thank you very much for the great response!

JetBeam TCR10 - not a twisty; but a rotating magnetic ring.

(I don't think that is readily available, I think the current models is the TCR20)

I think the Olight M23 javelot is a good choice. It's big enough to easily handle, and has a big tail cap that's easy to operate. Comes in a nice case with a holster and diffuser. That's what I picked up for my dad last year, when he was 91. Joe

If you are looking for something with a side switch, I would recommend the Zebralight. Very bright and easy to use. They even make some very nice models that will take AA batteries.
