It's a good site too.
As far as this one, the ot and hijacking were extreme over the last week or so. Try reading every thread, every post several times a day. Was getting way too many complaints.
Like I said, I'm working on a solution.

The hijacking I can see to a point. Not being able to post off topic posts is a little extreme. Like I said above, if I wanna share something with my friends, I want to. I like to post when I get tools at auctions dirt cheap even if they are not used towards knifemaking which makes it off topic. Who here really cares who I am and what I buy cheap? They don't know I am poor white trash with poor ways so big deal if I buy a high dollar tool for $1. I always post cheap mills or machine tools if they are not in my area over there which is pretty much off topic. Can I not now? Anyone that sees the dang OT in the title don't have to click if they don't want to. Why the iron fist?

I am sorry but if someone has to run and whine to a mod because they were offended by off topic posts needs to get a bigger set and say what is on their mind. The mods have bigger fish to fry with all the bogus posts and imposters and such I would think. Hijacking I can see and understand. And I have done my share. But off topic posts always say off topic in the title that I have seen. I mean come on, if I want to ask for a prayer, I want to ask my friends who know me. I do not visit the other forums. Most of these guys with a billion post counts I have no clue who they are.
You are doing a good job Kit and I know you got more important things to do than mess with this crap. I was posting when you posted, I wasn't whining about you.

I see now I am posting here. I thought I was posting on the thread that got moved to community. He posted talking about hearing the voices of his friends here. What sense is that going to make on a different forum?

If you want to talk to your friends, use the PM, or email, or phonel. that's what they're for. There's always the community forum in general for that sort of thing too.

I think accusing Kit of iron fist rule is totally out of line. This place has always been very relaxed, compared to many forums I frequent.

When I was a moderator on a couple of forums, I'd move OT threads in a second.

Try going to THR, or any other gun forums, and whatever they call the old CKD, and posting OT threads. They're gone before you can blink, and I don't blame them.

No, I hadn't! I saw that iron fist remark, and it really ticked me off. I apologize.

This forum has always been the most comfortable, and the most informative of all the knifemakers help forums on the internet, IMO, and I don't like what's been taking place here lately.

And no, I don't need to grow a pair. I wasn't one of those that complained, but I'm truly glad some others did.

No prob. I was talking about Cougar Allen when I posted that, I thought I was on that thread. It just seemed to me he was taking a mean tone with Dave, Don and Mike talking about talking to the Bruce's and Mark and stuff.
There probably is more off topic here than should be but like I said above, I don't know anyone else on any of the forums. Not that I don't want to, I just don't. Maybe if there was a shoptalk off topic forum or something. Will anyone else have a clue when someone is talking about Indians George's heat treating relish or Don's super spud gun or Jeff's work troubles? That is all I meant. A topic about football or basketball games I wouldn't even click on cause I don't watch sports much and wouldn't have a clue about any of the teams or players.

Personally I'd love to see another forum within the "Knife Maker's Forums" that would allow us to jabber with each other OT without having to venture into a more general audience. Truly, the opportunity for community amongst knifemakers is what draws me to Shoptalk.

I'm quite willing to pass on what I've learned when I can be of help. However, too sterile and the place loses it's appeal and becomes tight-sphinctered like other places. The last thing the forum wants is for the experienced people to bail out of boredom.

I agree! There should be a happy medium, or a place like you describe, because lately it seems that the OT, and other things, have gotten to be the majority.

I'm the last guy that wants a sterile forum, or one that you feel you have to tip toe around in, for fear of attack, or criticism . There's enough of those already, and I always breathed a sigh of relief when I logged off one of them.
Finally, I figured life was way too short, and my blood pressure way too high to even go into places that botherd me like that. So I don't.

I'm not pointing the finger at anybody, just voicing my thoughts, and concerns.

Cougar is actually pretty even handed, and fair. I've seen people get away with things on BFC, that would have gotten them banned at other places.

He doesn't need me to stick up for him, but I can see his point of view.

Here are all these threads that are stickied, all pertaining to OT threads, and what comes along? Another OT thread, and the poster saying, "I know this is OT but..........." or something to that effect. Think about that!!

Mark I registered on your forum a while back and can't get back on it. I thought maybe I had forgotten my username or password and tried reregistering with my real name and it claims there are some illegal characters in it.
