Wondered that myself, that list of fine folk wrote alot of the reading that kept me coming back.

I was wondering about Goose and Chicken Trax myself.....I log on three times a day!

Hope some of the old folks drop a line to let us know what's up. Mainly talking about the ones that were around when I first started coming here, like trax and goose.

I was wondering about some of the "old timers" myself, specifically Evil Eye Earl, who would provide many awesome pictures of his extensive collection.

While I am not one of that select group, I find my interests vary significantly from most of the current regulars.

While I will always appreciate Bucks, my primary interest is custom knives. I suspect that to be true with others as well. It is very common for knife lovers to change interests from manufactured knives to customs over time.

Maybe we should have a sticky.......like "What Ever Happened To?"

Those who know could tell the rest of us......be it health, death, change of hobby......whatever.

We should all keep in touch with at least a couple people here so they could check on us if we vanish suddenly.

Some of the missing ones that Dave mentions made great contributions to the forum.

yes miss the old guys
like post falls idaho
he will show up now and then but well tant seen hide nor hair o him of late

There are many different collectors and many different collections of BUCK knives. To each collector, their passion and the quality of their collection is equally important. For each such collection, the body of knowledge on this forum is enhanced and increased.

Forumites please don't take this wrong, I collect fixed blade BUCKS, I have little interest in folders. While I cannot speak for EEE, whose collection is museum quality, his prior postings seem to suggest that his interests are with fixed blade BUCKS also. Mike Kerins had both folders and fixed blades in his collection but posted pics of mostly fixed blades. HKINGDOM has a stunning collection of fixed blades and used to be a regular poster on this site (and still, rarely posts). I enjoy posting pics of my lesser collection of fixed blades, but there seems to be very few, on this site that are interested. So why post?

Frankly, there is very little of interest on this forum for the fixed blade collectors, it is generally composed of a club of folder collectors who probably have as little interest in fixed blades as I have in folders. But the point remains that this is almost (but not quite) exclusively devoted to folders. The last Sunday Picture show where any picture was shown had 16 photos of folders and 4 of fixed blades. The first three pages of posts beginning today had, where the topic was a knife, had 51 post on folders and 7 on fixed blades of any sort.

Please don't get all fluffy about these comments. Your folders are just as important as my fixed blades. This forum, however, seems to me to be essentially a folder forum. I try to post, but, frankly, I doubt that my posts would be missed, if I stopped.

I'm not surprised we see more posts on folders.

The folders must outnumber the fixed blades ten to one by now so it stands to reason there'd be more discussion of folders.

I just like the old ones and I like both fixed and folding. I don't understand all these weird new mechanical knives with plastic and powdered steel.

I still find a lot of interesting posts here.

I think some of us just got old........or.......horrors......finally got enough knives?

:)

Hope we hear from some of the old hands, anyhow.

TC if you quit posting I will be mad. I actually have more Buck fixed blades than 110s. Some of those you mentioned have had some life changes that keep them occupied. Some big some little. Watch the bottom of the threads and you will see them reading a thread now and then. I think almost all those you mentioned would answer an email if you sent one. Don't anyone give up totally or I will have to go over on the traditional knife forum and will have to hear just about customs, cases and sodbusters.....who knows I might even be forced to to buy a pen knife..........300

(1) There are perfectly valid justifications for this being a folder forum. But the point remains that there is very little of interest for those who collect fixed blade knives. So it is not surprising that a number of the fixed blade collectors have essentially disappeared.

(2) You, yourself, may find little of interest when this forum, in the future becomes a forum of "weird new mechanical knives with plastic and powdered steel."

(3) I seriously doubt that it is simply because they are just getting older. You know you are getting older too.

Tele, I'll talk fixed blades with you whenever you care to . I probably would not make it in that group you speak of as I'm not close to the big 'R' . Heck, I still have kids in school and none married . I've been taking my collection for years now to shows and displaying them . Which has a equal number of fixed blades and folder therein (20 of each) . All the one, two and three line early ones and I would have to say at these shows more questions come up in the area of fixed blades than folders . As a matter of fact during these years not one question has come up concerning the 500 or 700 series . Which many here will tell you I like those knives and enjoy discussing them . But it seems nobody else does at shows .?? Buck history, past employees and the Custom Shop comes up alot . Brush up should you decide to display . We talk steels alot here but not at shows . Many of these guys here are just getting one or two models history and steels down and thats where they are at . So, we have to be patient we'll get to discuss our line of interest along the way just enjoy the ride . DM

Yeah tele, dont stop posting. I dont respond to your posts normally only because I know even less about those sweet old fixed blades of yours than folders but I learn alot. Same with 300's comments, I only usually say things like "wow" cause I reallize I know very little, have nothing intelligent to add but am learning the whole time. Please keep posting.

Post Falls is still regular:thumbup:

 WHAT!!! I'm an old guy!!!???????? :D

Its funny how kids, work, and life get in the way of playing on the internet :D LOL

Tele, now don't go getting all fluffy on us ;) :D I enjoy posting pics of my eclectic user collection also. I post my pics, to (TRY to) get better with photography, and share the different models of Bucks. Does everyone appreciate it or miss them if I don't post any? Maybe, maybe not.... Do I care? Maybe, maybe not :D Post pics to have fun. Besides what are you talking about? I still have visions of that sweet 119 Buckcote pair from 2 weeks ago....

I gotta agree with BG42, I would be willing to bet that Bucks sales records also reflect this phenomenon...---------- does that mean Buck should no longer make fixed blades?
:eek::eek:

Just a guess, but I would say I own folders, probably 3:1 to fixed blades. I still love my fixed blades, but carry the folders more, hence I own more. I don't think guys quit posting here because of their "knife type"

Life happens, medical issues, kids, JOBS, finances etc. People change? I for one didnt post for a long time (years back) from some of the turmoil in this forum, it was just no longer fun. I am sure there were others ;)

now that is what i call a verrrry fine group of every day fixed blade users:thumbup:!!

I seriously doubt that it is simply because they are just getting older. You know you are getting older too.

Don't I know it!!!

I finally get a few good buys on e-Bay and I find out it's because Dave110 was sick for a few days.

When he's healthy he's way too fast for me and gets all the good knives!!!

:)

I've also been told by at least one of the old timers and got the same thing second hand from another that they left the forum or don't participate much anymore because of a couple of noteable "troublemakers" that were posting mostly negative, nitpicking and sarcastic posts.

All the "in fighting" and bickering just got old and they left.

I stay because I learn a lot. I am also on the Schrade and Camillus areas. I started on the forum on the Camillus area because of my Western knives. I now have a lot more Bucks but still can be found in other areas on the forum. My main area of collecting is 5" folders that are American made. Lately, I have been adding "girly" 112's.
