I was disabled some 5 years ago and have been struggling with some major spine injuries now just having my third spine surgery last week on wensday I rember what the pain was like. This was my second discetomy and fusion on my neck this one being a double with carbon cages. Ive been really bored and being in alot of pain is no fun I just hope it all works. Rolling a truck at 70 mph is what did it all and if this doesnt relieve my pain im looking at a triple laminectomy at the back of my neck to cut all the bone off my spinal cord. I just thought ide let you all know im here because of my seat belt. I enjoy all you criticizm and positve feedback . Drive safe and wear your seatbelts this Thanks giving.. kellyw

Good luck with your recovery, Kelly! I'm a chiro student and have seen the results of laminectomies and the like... Really hope you're able to get this under control without it!

Random question, but I'm trying to figure out why your scar would be along your SCM (the muscle there on your neck right underneath the incision), did they just fuse anterior body segments this time around?

Your scar is not very manly and you have an oddly positioned tuft of chest hair! Furthermore, I question your ability to grow a beard.

enjoy, and get well soon. Chronic pain sucks.

Kelley, I wonder if you just don't like pain! With all your safety issues making knives and now this! :p Get better soon man.

I do agree about the chest hair and wondering why they used packaging tape to hold the incision together.

Best wishes for a quick recovery. Hope the surgery helps the situation. My dad has had four back surgeries and I know he has went through hell with it.

wondering why they used packaging tape to hold the incision together.

This year, the Government of Saskatchewan redirected most of it's health care funding to it's football team. Strangely, no one complained. Kelly probably had to bring his own packing tape and rebar.

:D Hang in there Kelly.

Rob!

Take care and I wish you the best. I had a discectomy and spinal fusion a year and a half ago. There were complications and a hell of a recovery, but I am now much better than before the surgery.

Be a good young man and follow all of your doctors orders! Also, I gained much relief and accelerated healing from working with a neuro-muscular massage specialist to deal with the complications (ymmv).

I pray that your pain rapidly diminishes and that you have permanent relief from a successful surgery.

You'll be healing through the cold months; stay next to the stove and don't get chilled. It helps with the pain if you can keep your body relaxed.

Good luck with this, I hope this surgery works for you.

+1 on the seat belt. i t-boned another car 5-6 mos. ago doing appx. 35mph. not a scratch. the other driver was wearing her belt too. she was ok too. good luck on your recovery.

Take care man as I can feel for you. I had a lower spinal fusion back in 98 after a five car pileup and had a lot of complications. So I can understand chronic pain very well. They have been talking about another surgery above that one but so far I have said NO. I have the same problem in the neck with degenerative disks but no surgery so far.
Hang in there man. I think the procedures and recovery treatment has improved over the last few years. I wish the best possible recovery for you!

Best wishes for an easy recovery. I hope it addresses your cervical spine issues and leaves you pain-free.

Kelly hope all goes well.I had my 4th back surgery in march 08,and have not worked since, now they tell me that i have permanent nerve damage.I am still trying to recover.

God bless,Keith

Thanks to you all and I also hope those who are in my situation or simular find some way to beat the pain. Rob your right one nurse told me why dont you just go home youll get better care!!!!!! Im thinking like WHAT my dog is gonna just lick my wounds lmao. It was really ruff in the hospital but im crossing my fingers no changes yet. . Now to address the wise guys lol they made me shave my chest or some of it and I tried to shave my face and it just hurts way to much. Today the incision let loose and had to go get it taped up. To ansewr the question about why down the whole side /frontof my neck. I had one discetomy and fusion one level lower and they were doing a double up above and made the incision larger to accomidate the carbon cages they used. Thanks again you all, kind words go a long way when you feel like crap.

Damn man. And I thought my back hurts. That looks ... sore ...

Anterior is the standard approach (cervical) for better visibility and better less painful healing. Fusion via bone graft at the body is also standard though there are experimental devices that allow mobility.

Deloid my c3/4 is fused with a bone graft my neck swole up like a ballon and it was a real bad time. today I went out and even driving the car hurt when I raise my arms to turn corners, cant shoulder check just use the mirrors. I had a few small speed bumps and got lucky ,it started to get infected and I had a fever of 99 then started to gargle with some cepacol and took tynol to break the fever. Morphine helps but not alot its very painful right now in shoulders and tricepts. I am staying home till late next week well see what happens.
