Off topic Wife is now a civilian

Congratulations to you and your wife! Military life is demanding and FEW can or WILL tolerate it, I retired a few years back also, and trust me in the coming years with no Medical Bills and a great Monthly retirement check it will all be worth it-Thanks to your wife to the service of this country and enjoy the retirement-SHE EARNED IT!!!

My family's heartfelt gratitude for your wife's - and your - service to our nation...Cheers.

28 years is a good run:thumbup:. Enjoy your retirement together. You've given plenty. Cheers to both of you!!!!!

Congrats, and please thank your wife for her service!!

Now take some well deserved R & R!!!!

Thanks everyone, she started in the Air Force and transferred to the Public Health Corps. She wanted to keep going for 30 but the Pt just keeps getting harder and so do deployments after you hit your 50s. She's already dealing with the VA and looks like she will end up around 100% disabled according to them. Lot of accumulated damage over the years.

Sorry to read about all the added up damage that adds up to 100% disability, but that is a nice sized check along w/her retirement!

Kind of a late update but wife is now a civilian and working a couple days a week at the local hospital and really enjoying it.

The retirement ceremony was nice and choked us all up. My oldest presented my wife a folded flag in a change of the watch ceremony and had everyone in tears.

David, congrats to you & your wife & daughter!
I hope that a slower pace will help your wife with her medical issues...
What a great family you have, and what a great family for all of your devotion!
Best wishes!

Congrats to your wife, you must be a proud husband.
And looks like you've done a fine job as a father as well

Tell your wife congratulations and thank you for her service to our great country from a former paratrooper. I only served for 3 but my younger brother served 4 in the Marines and then a few years later 4 more in the Army before being forced out on a medical. He still works for the Army as a civil service nurse doing the same thing he did when active duty. He just was not deployable any longer. I thought he might know your wife until I looked up where Granbury, TX is located. Wrong part of the state - he is in El Paso at Ft. Bliss.

JDE101 my daughter is hoping to be posted to Ft. Bliss when she finishes BOLIK. She said they have one of the best emergency room training environments in the Army.

Thanks everyone again for all the kind comments.

Cricketdave, If and when she does get to Bliss, send me a PM and I'll give you my brother's contact information for you to give to her. He worked in the emergency room at Bliss when he first became a nurse in the Army up until he was forced to "retire" because he was non-deployable, he came back immediately as a contractor and stayed in the ER for a few more years, then moved to critical care for a few years. Along the line he switched from a contractor to the Federal Civil Service. Still is a nurse there on a regular daytime shift now. Loved working the night/weekend ER and CC shifts because of the additional time off during the week. I'm certain he'd be willing to help her out and point her in the right direction when she gets there.
