Offcentered bummer

Just received my small micarta tanto from knives ship free and blade seems to be favoring one side pretty heavy. I took this out of the box and rushed to work before noticing and after a few snail trails as well. Strange thing is that this may be the smoothest I own. Detent is amazing...heavy SNAP shut. Now I can't tell it it's offcenter, or the grind is creating an optical illusion? Any thoughts on this one?1508824809812147696535.jpg 1508824809812147696535.jpg 1508824918524243280991.jpg

I thought it might be an illusion of the grind, but if you measure the tip it looks like it skews to the lock side.

Hold it against a light surface and look how the blade is sitting between the scales, hold it so that you look at the edge. If the blade is sitting pretty much paralell against the slabs you are good.

From that angle it looks good. I have 2 in for double lugs as we speak. Once I get those back I'll just send this in for double lugs as well and get their opinion I guess. It functions perfect right now....

To me it looks centred but it is hard to tell from the pics. I too recommend you close the knife then look straight down the closred spine of the knife through the handle scales. Look through them to a light source. Now it will be easy to see if the blade is favouring one side or the other by judging how even the light shines through the scales.

It looks perfect until maybe the last inch of the blade. One side remains even, the other seems to slope down. Almost positive the tanto on this one is ground a bit uneven. Didn't think I would be saying this but I'm actually pretty happy about this one. Functions great. Man I sure do appreciate y'alls help on this one. Saved me alot of unnecessary 'staring' at this for weeks and weeks ahead. Ha

I’d bet if you put a straight line down the center of the spine from the pivot to the tip, you’d find that the blade is centered and the grind is off so much that it’s throwing the tip off to one side.
Josh K Josh K ’s modified pic shows that the long side of the grind is throwing the tip off.
That knife needs to be sent back or to CRK to be fixed.

I agree ... it seems to be fairly well centered but the grind appears to be very noticably uneven. It could be angle or lighting tricks in the pictures ... but if the grind is off as much as it appears I would definately have them address it and bet they would replace the blade or the knife itself.

Side note.... Any other knife, I would have been ok with this. I have many with this small issue and it hasnt bugged me one bit. But i have 5 other CRK's and all are absolute perfection... plus i spent a hot $450 on this beauty. Might as well be perfect as well

I don't blame you ... the price of the knife it shouldn't have that issue ... and I'm sure that CRK wouldn't want one of their knives to be sold that way ... but every now and then there will be one slip through no matter how good the company is ... but I have no doubt they will take care of you. They take pride in what they put out and are great with CS.

Well spoken. Exactly my opinion. CRK wants to have knives without issues in the market and with their customers. So they will take care of it.

Here is a pic of my Small 21 tanto. A bit fuzzy because of the zoom, but it appears closer on the grind than yours, but still a tiny bit different.

And each side of the grind...

Either the grind was so bad that it looked way off, or it simply was way off. Either way it was bugging me. Better to rip off the bandaid and send it in than wait a month or two. I'll get my 'honeymoon' time with it with double thumb lugs in a month or so now. Good in the long run I guess
